I may be coming into a little bit of money soon, and Ive always loved this car. My intention would be to buy one for a year, but going on the fact it may still depreciate over 12 months, how much is it realistically going to cost me?

Would I be better off with a 328 or 348?

With their very low depreciation, buying and using a used Ferrari (355 included) can work out to be cheaper than most newer and more mainstream prestige marques.

But on some of the other threads I have looked at, some people have mentioned that they're getting to the stage where bits go wrong, and its that that worries me. How expensive are the parts?

Also, whats the main things to look out for when buying one. Its not something they do much of a buyers guide for I dont think!

Things can go wrong as they do on all cars. The problem with forums is that people only tend to post things that have gone wrong. Obviously it doesnt make much point to post "Another month with my car and nothing has gone wrong" and as a newbie buyer, you can pick up on that and think that they are the most fragile cars in the world.

I've sold plenty of 355s over the years and they have given me very little trouble.

Watch points on the 355 are listed in detail here

At a guess you are from the Elms collection then? Where abouts are you based? Ive just been checking out the 1995 Berlinetta on your webpage. Is it a 5.2 model?

What about reliability, any difference there? Sorry Im being so picky with everything, but if Im going to buy one, I dont want to cock it up with it being my first and most likely last Ferrari!

early cars have slighty higher bhp figs -about 5hp- and are easier to decat due to less stringent emission standards

If you are considering buying a Ferrari it's wise to keep a few grand tucked away for problems that might occur.

I had a 355 for 3 years, forced 100bhp extra of nitrous through it too and (apart from servicing) just minimal things went wrong with it.

Go for it !

I dont think I'll be doing anything like nitrous. I wouldn't take the risk with anything like that.

So is it better to go for a later or earlier 355?

it wont depreciate at all as long as you don't overpay. I'd suggest buying on condition (as always) and NOT on mileage (to an extent, sub 50k - you could get a real bargain if it's been well looked after higher mileage) and I'd prefer to buy one that had been used regularly rather than one that hadn't seen much use recently as thats when some problems can occur. Get one with work done recently.

The guy before meconfused

which is why it had the cam belts done at the last service and why it has a full grey paul inspection and hpi certificate with it now, and why its £10k cheaper than similar cars at Verdis etc.

Which is the price I was advised to sell at when i asked on here, so make your minds up guys!!!!!

Ok im not loaded and lived a dream for a while, now im keeping nothing back and hiding nothing, the car isnt perfect which is why its so cheap.

Sorry for offending you guys, I will leave you to your perfect world now and go back to my 9-5 life where i belong

Thanks

Darren

your advertised price seems about right but lack of service history will scare off a lot of people. fully sorted rhd spiders arent making 42k so your car's not cheap by any measure

Steady on old boy, I wasn't having a pop. It's a lovely looking car at a good price. The previous owner needs a kick though!!
