Had demo.. Nice dry conditions mostly, bar few damp patches on Ascot backroads.
Initial thoughts were, over soft steering and lack of feedback through the wheel, compared to say a well setup 996RS (I say 996, because I think 997 is too soft).
But this was the only negative comment, and I think with a decent geo and sticky rubber.. it could be very good.
Balance of the car is sublime, mid engine really does make a difference.. once you wind it up. Through slow and faster corners, the car feels so neutral.. no feeling of weight transfer that you get in a 911.
Gearbox is awesome, no question of wanting a manual now. I drove it in sport and then race mode. Upshifts are crisp and precise, downshifting hard on the brakes into corners.. there was no unsettling of the rear. Gearbox does all the work double de-clutching and blipping throttle.
Engine just pulls and pulls from 3500 to 8500, engine revs much quicker than an RS, it does feel like it pulls harder at the top than an RS, but only marginally so. Torque is not huge, so need to wind the revs up.
Brakes.. was concerned before drive, as standard discs seem very small, compared to an RS. But they are of special material to disperse heat. On the road they have very very good bite and feel. Could not test fade on the demo. Would have to get the left foot braking, if pushing along.
Noise is fecking awesome .. Demo car only had 1800 miles, but exhaust was popping and crackling on overrun. Had window down couple of inches to hear full effect. Feel like Schumie on the downshifts in race mode.
Overall, it is an awesome bit of kit. Car is so easy to drive fast, as balance and gearbox mean you only have to brake, turn and floor the gas. It really flatters the driver.. can see why they state that average Joe, can lap within couple secs of test driver on track.
