Hi there,

I know this belongs in the Mercedes forum but I know we have had various discussions regarding the Mercedes McLaren SLR in here before.

There is a report in todays Autosport about the car in the picture below: -

Apparently it was seen at the Nurburgring recently and was built by RML here in the UK. RML are responsible for the running of the Chevrolet World Touring Car squad and was apparently commissioned to build the car by Mercedes.

Here is some details from Leftlane news: -
"Spy photographers have spotted the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR 722 GT while testing in Germany. Production of the Mercedes supercar is expected to begin early next year with only 20 examples being built. While the engine of the 722 GT is said to be unchanged from the regular 722, look for the GT to shed an additional 660 pounds.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the new hyper-performance Mac Daddy managed to complete the notorious Nurburgring Nordschleife or 'Northern Loop' in a blistering 7m 38s, but apparently can go even faster. Driving on the test day was McLaren test pilot Chris Goodwin, who was forced to take it slower than usual because of problems with the transmission. Further tests will continue between the 20th and 24th of this month near the village of Le Castellet in France.

The car features the same 650hp supercharged V8 from the 'regular' SLR 722 but has been put through an extensive weight saving program, which sees almost 660 lbs. shed from the vehicle's curb weight. It's thought this new model has been developed as a homologation special for an upcoming FIA GT race car ,but no official word has been given.

Looks like a stunner.

Regards

Tim

Sounds like just another special edition. 21 to be made, 769k euros (or retrofit current car for 450k), cannot be raced in FIA races, 300kg lighter but same engine.

If it wasn't a Mclaren, it would be accused of be a 'chavmobile'! Look at the spoiler adn the scissor doors...

thats spoiler probably does something though and the doors will be like that to help you get into it.

The doors are standard on the SLR.

I was never keen on the looks of the standard car, but in race guise, it works. Looks brutal.

The reason why 'chavmobiles' are detested is because they have 'things' stuck onto them that have no relevance to its performance (i.e. having a HUGE spoiler to create downforce for the 98bhp car).

This SLR on the other hand, has a big spoiler for a reason...

Surely you wouldn't need such a lever for a regular torque-convertor auto? scratchchin
