awoke this am to find my daily runner, an old merc has had its front end rearranged by a lorry. to be fair he has left a card and i called him this am, he is based in holland and delivers flowers. he'll be back at the weekend and will provide his insurance details then. seeings as this is zero fault on my account i am loathe to involve my insurers as i have the fezza with the same company, norwich union and have never had a claim in all my time driving. i expect i am correct in saying that any involvement with my insurance company will change my risk/affect ncb? any advice?

As far as I am aware you will have to let your insurance know that you have had a claim against a 3rd party or your insurance could be invalid for failure to disclose (it would be on the insurance database so they would know but they would be expecting you to come clean). It should not make any diff to your premium/ncd. It is all about being honest!wink

I'd be wary of insuring such a specialist motor with such a bunch of losers.

Google for Chubb Masterpiece Quantum.

I was once in a similar non-fault situation. I informed my insureres and then use a company called Help Hire. They effectively took over full responsibility for the claim and even gave me a rental car. There was no impact on my insurance.

thanks all, yep shall give norwich union a bell. the weird thing about this is that i have had 3 vivid dreams re the car getting its front end done in in the last 2 weeks. all involved the merc, told me missus about one as it was so detailed. then last night had another , got up this am and there she was, banged up like in the dream. spooky. heres hoping i start dreaming of lottery numbers, because if i start getting them involving the fezza then she isnt coming out of the garage...

Give PHer anniesdad a shout (Steve Greensmith).
He runs a company similar to but (IMHO) better than helphire and has helped out numerous PHers.

currently involved in similar thing.

lady drove into back of my stationary Z3 on a14 damaging rear bumper. She admitted full liability and told her insurer. Rang my insurer who said I could ring her insurer and deal with them direct. Her insurers then said I had to go through my insurer!! Bottom line was my insurers then confirmed with hers she admitted liability and I was then passed over to her insurers who are now dealing direct with me so my NCB remains and I pay nothing... is that clear as mud???

Good luck mate,

Rupert

Help Hire is a company that provides car hire and deals with uninsured losses. Their involvement has absolutely no effect on ensuring that insurance premiums are not affected, as they aren't an insurer; merely a company connected with the industry.

thanks for all of the above..took the car to mercedes in beaconsfield, the qoute is 6.3k!!!.apparently the bonnet is 2k + vat. so what to do? the car is perfectly driveable and i know someone who could get the bonnet looking fine for a fraction of this...seems likely that seeings the cars worth is around 7-8k they'll write the car off. now, i have heard of similar stories with older fezza's, with owners then buying them back off the insurers, how does this work?
