tbops - run for cover mate, I can see the replies now, if you can afford an Enzo, Phantom, SLR et al surely you can afford a PC with a working spacebar....

Not heard much about the Teflon Coating I'm afraid, although seems to make good sense

Anything that sprays on won't work as well as anything you stick on like paintshield. Spray on coats are usually wax replacements and a good wax won't protect against stones, just bird crap and tree sap etc.

Anything that you stick on to protect from chips ends up looking pretty rubbish around the edges.

Report back then please tbops, I'm always interested in new techniques to protect paint from stone chips!

Think of it this way though, paintshield works because it adds a strong yet flexible layer over the paint which can absorb stones instead of chipping. I'd have thought that anything that sprays onto the paint will take on the same brittle properties of the clearcoat already on there.

Will be interesting to hear if your grease monkey is barking up the wrong tree.

Sounds a bit like Permagard?

http://www.permagard.info

I know a couple of people who have had this done (TVR T350 and Ferrari 360), and both have been very happy with it.

Again, this is protection from the elements and designed as a polish / wax replacement for the lazy. It won't stop stone chips.

Permagard does offer paintwork protection, however it does not contain Teflon and is applied using low speed oscillating polishers rather than sprayed on.

As mentioned it wont STOP stonechips like armourfend (plastic film) and the like but it may help to reduce there effect.

Glad your friends are happy with there treatments.

Ok i was told when i purchased my car it had the "Teflon" coating but as it was "invisible" how was i to know?!!
But it must have as i have now done over 10,000 miles in it and there are hardly any chips at all! I have see another Gallardo with a lot less miles than mine (25,000) and it looked a right mess with loads of large chips etc!! So yes i think it's great stuffbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Not wanting to play devils advocate (but doing so anyway) don't you do a lot of your mileage in the G during "unsociable" hours along fairly empty roads? Might this account for the lack of stone chips?

Sorry, I'm just very sceptical of anything that's "invisible" that can protect against chips.

I recently had my car serviced by a guy who recommended some Teflon spray wax called Interflon (I think). It does NOT protect against stone chips but it IS a wax treatment replacement. Very easy to apply and the finish really is amazing. My car and paintwork is 10 years old now, but looks brand new again. All I did was wash and rinse the car then gave it a quick dry off, then sprayed the Teflon stuff on, buffed it a little bit and job was done. Water just runs off it after you've finished and it can be used on glasswork and alloys as well, and it really helps with stopping road grime/brake dust sticking to the alloys and bodywork. 1 can lasts ages as well (I've given it a couple of Teflon's now and it gets better with each application) If anyone wants the details, drop me a IM and I'll put you in touch with the guy.

Deffo not a new thing, we had a 964 and an E30 M3 teflonned by Dick Lovetts in Swindon in the early 90's. Was dirt cheap at the time as well IIRC. ~£100

Made cleaning the cars to showroom shine a 10 min job. Honestly 99p Petrol station jet wash and the car was spotless. 2 mins with a chami to dry it and that was it.

Will be sending my car to this lot when its come out of the paintshop...
