Every time I see a new S Class, I think its looks are remarkably like a Maybach. For the price, I cant believe they can cram £200k's worth of feel-good in to a Maybach over an S class.

I'm sure they're incredible, but I think you'd need a driver if you're getting one of those puppies.

If you are going to buy one, then I would probably go for the 62. It may be slower, but the Zonda would make up for that i'm sure hehe and it would surely be more comfortable, which really is what it's made for.

I'm sure that either would be acceptable though biggrin

I though the only advantage of a 62 was that the seats folded completely flat? If it's a car that you'll be driving yourself (it's an S so I assume you will be) then is the extra length of the 62 required? Mind you, when the car's that size another 0.5m is not crippling.

I have a Black Rolls Royce Phantom, and I have never looked back for me personaly it is the superior out of the two cars. You are true in saying the Maybach is the rarer car but the presence of the Phantom is unreal! It is a great car to both drive yourself and to be driven in!

You could always get the 57 tuned by Brabus

Brabus set a new record top speed at the Nardo test track in Italy this weekend. The weapon of choice was a Maybach 57 powered by their Brabus SV12 S Biturbo engine. The special Maybach 57 hit an amazing 330.6 km/h after a number of runs on the famous oval. With a total weight of over 2700 kg the Brabus Maybach is the heaviest car to ever achieve such a speed. Brabus further developed the 5.5 liter V12 that produces 550 hp in the Maybach 57 into a 6.3 liter V12 delivering 730 hp.

although I think I'd prefer the Rolls over the Merc

If you are going to buy one just make sure its second hand. Maybachs aer probably the biggest depreciating cars in the world.

We recently had a 62 for a year and have just sold a 52, and I must say they are an incredible machine, with amazing attention to detail. The only negative is the technology in the cabin is a bit dated compared to the likes of the new S-Class, it still has DVD based COMAND and a lot of the pre-facelift S-Class controls.

For what it's worth if it was my money I would probably put it into a Phantom, the residuals would be much stronger and the presence is a lot greater.

They are something else when you sit in them, but for me it'd be the Phantom every day . What did you think of your old silver Phantom Jason ?

Obviously never driven either and only sat in a high end S class but when you say its an insult to call it a overpriced S class, why is that?

From looking at pictures from a drivers point of view nothing seems to be gained by spending the extra 110k for the maybach? I can understand why it would be nicer if you were to be driven but to drive you gotta tell me the benefits? Is it just the 'i know i'm in the classer, more rare car' or do the benfits extend to when your behind the wheel?

To me, the whole point of these cars is to 'be driven'. To buy one & then to drive it yourself kind of defies the object. Everyone will think you're a chaffeur (sic) for someone else.

I'd much prefer something along the lines of a Bentley Conti GT or Flying Spur (you have got a Zonda & Range Rover) so that would cover most bases IMO.

Dealers wont touch them for anything resembeling decent money. They dont command any money at trade or sale. Last time i checked (earlier in the year) there were a quite a few going in the states with big chunks of depreciation taken out.

I was looking myself and then one of my neighbors bought one. They are rarer than the phantom but toolook at they look a bit awkward. im using a braud brush for them all im sure a brabus one on monoblock 6's would look much better.

Factor in a loss of £120k in depreciation in year 1 and you won't be disappointed. But then again if money is no object, who cares !
