The Lambo V12 is reckoned to be pretty solid and unburstable. What you have to remember is that this is a 15 year old car so may have a few issues, depending on how well it's been looked after.

Before my Diablo I ran an 18 year old Countach, which was a perfectly good car, but I always had a list of small things that needed doing - silly things like shock absorbers, getting the seats recovered, renewing the gas struts that holds the boot open etc. Nothing that would keep the car off the road, but you get the idea.

Also remember that whilst the car is 15 years old, prices for spares are very much up to date and genuine Lambo parts can be pricey, as with any other big name make.

However, don't let that put you off. The important thing is to check that the car has been well maintained and regularly serviced, in which case you would be getting a lot of car for the money.

That grey Diablo belongs/used to belong to a Member of LCUK - I've seen it in the metal on a number of occasions and for an early spec. Diablo it looks and sounds pretty darned good!

Right, glowing but short reference over - as DIW 35 (evening Derek!) said, you will need to have the car properly checked and be prepared for any bills to be very large if any spending is required other than servicing and basic maintenance - when they should be acceptable.

Membership of LCUK would help you locate the best service and maintenance facilities in your area and also let you know the people to avoid! You don't need to buy any Lamborghini before you join the Club and would probably save a stack of worry and distress that a game of 'purchase in the dark' could cause you...

Diablos (any variation!) are great to drive, great to stare at, go like do-do off a very shiny shovel and can be made louder than low flying aircraft if you want and ... if you buy right, you'll not be sorry did!

Also, Lamborghini Club UK is waiting for you - see you soon?!?!?

Hi Martin,
the only issue with our (1993) was some corrosion on the fuse board that caused some light issues but once cleaned was good as gold and ignition coils going down. For some reason some of the early 2wd cars where very very quick. (apparently much lighter crankshaft). No power steering and it loads through corners, but that quite nice. Narrow gearbox gate, that is also nice. Clutch fu**ing heavy but may have been on the way out. Heavy as in you slide up the seat pushing it I kid you not. Brakes. If you plan on spirited driving I would really recommend a Brembo brake upgrade kit. Something we would have done if we had not bought the 99SV. They are useless. I remember overtaking a few cars on the old single carriageway road to Ruoen. 3rd 4th 5th nearly 2 leptons oops. Quicker than the SV and in many ways more tactile to drive. Go get it and enjoy, you won't be dissapointed, Graeme

I know it is not as visually dramatic as a Diablo but for similar money a 2000 i.e 7yrs newer Fezza 550 Maranello can be bought !

199 MPH, useable luggage capacity, V12 noise, poise, grace and already lost all the money it's likely to.

At mid £40k it will also only have 30,000 miles on it. Many more Indy Specialists for Fezza too.

Just my 2p

I'm used to a heavy clutch on my Monaro so it wouldn't be a problem smile

Another LCUK member has well regarded dealership in Scotland and has a few Diablos in stock. Have a look at Top Gear Cars.

Just spent an hour or so at Lambo Birminham. The V12s there (Murcis) were simply stunning - very 'magnetic' cars. Must have one!

£43k seems a bit cheap for a Diablo. Anyone know the history?? any horror stories?

Eyup 28

I take it the early cars are 2WD. Brakes probably a bit poor?? Are brakes & steering servoed? CLutch VERY heavy, or not too bad?

What do they 'really' weigh with half a tank of fuel?? 1600 kg??

Are there simple routes to upping output (std is 485HP from 5.7 litres, no??) That's only 85 bhp/litre. Or is it just not needed - still alot of grunt!

Brakes are servoed but calipers are too small. Clutch. Carrera Sport can fit the later clutch assembly which is far lighter. He can also supply engine management chip. We ran a de cat and straight through exhaust with Diablo GT tail pipes. In truth way too loud and I really mean way too loud. Early cars where very quick. No one would sit behind our car at Le Mans it was just too painful I kid you not.

Carlo has a few pics sometimes where his camera just goes mad... the pictures of the viola coloured car look either 'about right' colour-wise or plain 'gone-bonkers'... it's actually not as larey a colour as one of the pictures makes the car look... being the good geezer he is, he won't sell you a pup!

The car looks OK for an original spec. Diablo - but, as with any Lamborghini purchase, from a car that's in a number of boxes with a pile of battered documents right thru' to a Murciéllardo Spydster made late last week - tread with care and have the eyes wide-open as much as you can... plus, you might want to JOIN LCUK before you buy anything with a Bull badge at all!
