Hi chaps,

Just did a quick search, but I only found a topic regarding license plates on the Eurotunnel, so here goes...

Is there anyone who has taken their Diablo on the Eurotunnel? Will it make the turn into the train, and what about if they make you take the upper deck? I'm talking about an early Diablo without adjustable suspension...

Any help much appreciated smile

They should direct you to the wider lorry carriages.

Just in case you need to know very soon and any of the Diablo or Murciélago owners who've been on Eurotunnel don't reply...

You can take a Diablo on Eurotunnel if you use the truck cabins... I'm sure it's best to book all that before you pitch up hoping to get in there to get under there to get over there!

A convoy of LCUK bods travelled to Sant'Agata this year including 2 Murciélagos, a Diablo Roadster and a Diablo GT and three or four Gallardos - all of them in the truck cabins, both ways...

Cheers,

Do you have to book it in advance, or just drive up to the lorry section?

Have used the Eurotunnel on a few occasions now, with a Countach and a Diablo, and just follow the lorry/coach signs. Have not booked as a lorry in advance, just as a normal car. Even if you don't follow the lorry signs, the staff will normally redirect you.

Is the ferry a better option, by the way?

Quite.
Last time they just looked at the Esprit and pulled me out of the queue and sent me into the lower deck.

I've heard so many horror stories over the years, of people with sports cars wrecking spoilers when having to go on the upper deck.

What is the problem on the diablo? Width or ride height? Because the entry to the lower deck is flat, it's just got elevated walkways, about 2 inches (5cm) in height... But if it's too narrow, i'll wreck the rear wheels frown

The Esprit V8 went on no problem and that is just as wide. And there was plenty to spare.
Plenty of room for turning in and out and no ground clearance issues at all.

I really cant see them directing you onto the upper deck.

They will put you on the lower deck, and if it looks like you are going to be pointed to the upper, just refuse. they are usually fine.

Tony_666's Diablo went on the normal lower deck with us on the Le Mans crossings without any width problem.

Having taken both the 93 and the SV on the eurotunnel (le mans) they'll always direct you onto the lower deck. That said if they attempt to send you to the upper level simply refuse but I have never seen it happen. It is a bit of a squeaze when you travel through the train, maybe 40mm each side and mittors get close where the toilets protrude, a bit of tyre rubbing on the sides but it is OK.

I would go with that. We have taken a Countach on the ferry and a Diablo through Eurotunnel about four times now. On Eurotunnel trips we have always travelled with the coaches and lorries.

If you are considering the ferry though you will need to get the timing right to go with the tide. There's someone we know who organises trips for a number of supercar clubs and he has said you need to be careful about getting on and off at the right times so you don't ground. I have his contact number should you want it if you go via the ferry. My personal choice would be Eurotunnel - just be aware that you might get searched or at least looked over by Customs - that's happened everytime we've used it.

That's because you're with the lorries Lisa. They've been told to check every vehicle for any illegal immigrants biggrin

Aye, but I think that's just because he saw you walking towards him wink

I've taken the eurotunnel with a DB9 Volante without any problem. They got me to load on the lower deck. Had a similar good experience with a 911.

The only problem I had was some fat pillock who decided that he didn't like me or my car. Dealt separately with all of my french diplomacy. wink
