was just looking in the classifieds (i'm not even going to try and pretend that I can afford one) and noticed that £100k would buy you a nice Gallardo, leggy Murci or a mint Diablo.

so... in the general opinion... what would be the best Lambo investment at £100k

a.) Gallardo
b.) Murci
c.) Diablo

based upon weekend driving of no more than 5k per annum (ie. not daily runner).

whilst i absolutely adore the Murci', I can't help but think a pampered and loved late Diablo will be the better investment, in terms of experience and resale.

Bearing in mind that these cars dont sell at asking prices, you would be surprised at what you can get for around about 100K.

I'm no expert but I think you may be right if you invested your money in the right Diablo I would think that would offer the closet return on your money whilst still providing you with huge uncompromised Lamborghini experience.

I had a great speil of stuff in my head written-ish which arrived, handy-dandy at the learned and considered above...

In that £££ bracket and in terms of being near loss-proof compared to newer Lamborghinis, a 6 is by far the best choice.

Not necessarily in orange though! Even if a Diablo does look particularly good covering for a lack of vitamin C in the owners diet somehow...

There is alot of factors to buying this type of car........

There shouldbe lots of threads here , but one word answers are not suited for this question.

is such thing as a £100k countach?

then again, if we're thinking outside of the box, is there such thing as a £100k miura?

but i guess we are then delving into the realms of classic cars, which places a bit more of a spin on the 'go out and use it' factor involved with the first three.

I don't think there are any £100k Muiras but Countachs fetch up to £250k for the very early ones, the latest fetching £55/65k.

A Miura in even very average condition in the UK would be for sale for approx. £150,000 at this time; better one's will trade between members of the Miura mafia for vast amounts of money, when they do actually trade at all. It's a tiny, secretive, elite market - whether anybody else likes it or not.

The one and only Miura Roadster built by Sant'Agata, (as opposed to the numerous butchered coupés) was sold not very long ago for $1,000,000. This car can be seen on page 31 of the latest edition Rivista Veloce, in a sunny field in California, with almost nobody paying any attention to it...

If you can actually find a £100,000 Miura, you will have found a car needing huge amounts of money spending on it or else, you are very, very fortunate indeed.

The cheapest Miura that I've been offered was $175k, but it needed at least $150k spent on it, and then I’d have to add the costs of importing it to the UK. I was also offered a matching numbers P400SV at $775k, even with the current exchange rate, that’s just too expensive!

Oh yes! A Miura S... the rarest of the 'production' runs - (original spec. Miura = 474 made, 'S' = 140 made, 'SV' = 150 made). The 'S' was easily the best looking imho, the SV being a bit tubby around the hips by comparison (I can sense the Miura mafia bearing down, especially the SV section)...

Does anyone remember the days (late 1980s to mid 1990s) when Miura S ANM 90H was frequently in the press?

It is/was a gorgeous pistachio green car and was excruciatingly 'correct' even by the sky-high standards of the concours Miuras in California, then as now. What made it really great was the fact that it was very frequently driven!

Wish I knew where it was now, fingers crossed that it's still in the UK - it's not the Miura S that used to belong to Twiggy's manager and which used to be lhd and white in the 1960's and which is now on the cover of the Haynes book written by Richard Dredge. (That's much darker green compared to ANM 90H)

I think (OK, I know!) that it was sold in exchange for a reasonable condition Miura SV and a chunk of money. A brilliant, lovely car - it was very-within LCUK until 1999 and after that sale it vanished... I've got some scruffy old photos from then - real printed pix, not just data.

Florent Moulin also have that red Anniversary that's barely moved a wheel - that poor car is just crying out to be driven, like it was intended to be driven!

Can you feel that slight wobble to the planet? That's being caused by Ferruccio Lamborghini spinning furiosly in his grave that is!

a.) Gallardo
b.) Murci
c.) Diablo

whilst i absolutely adore the Murci', I can't help but think a pampered and loved late Diablo will be the better investment, in terms of experience and resale.
"Pampered and loved" means "garage queen" in my book, and if it hasn't been serviced for 5 years because the owner doesn't actually drive the thing then I would tread carefully before parting with money for a barely used 10 or 15 year old Diablo.

That withstanding:

a) The Gallardo is the best driver's car.
b) The Murci is the fastest choice.
c) The Diablo is, by far, the coolest (though, good luck in finding a RHD 6.0, in any colour).

I'm with Paul (CUE99T) on this. Investments are for people who don't intend to drive the car, in which case they're not an enthusiast in my book and would be best putting their money in copper instead (or Gazprom). Or why not just buy a poster?

A modern Lambo will cost modern money to keep fettled. An older one will be cheaper, but will feel older to drive.

If I didn't love my Gallardo so much I'd be sorely tempted by a tidy Espada or Islero. Both could be had for a fraction of the notional £100K budget, which would leave money spare to get the inevitable problems (iffy brakes, overheating, dodgy generator) fixed and still not cost half of the budget. Both of these being a bit "left field" I suspect most potential buyers would be more interested in condition rather than mileage, making these less sporting models a safer bet IMO. (Actually 'making money' has more to do with blind luck than most people will ever admit to.)

Ofcourse, for some, these aren't proper Lamborghini's. Which makes them all the more cool for me.

At the end of day, none of the cars on the list will be a disappointing experience but prejudice is as likely to determine choice as much as intelligent consideration. But you won't make a penny on any of them unless you're lucky (or Jonny wink).
