what price an early Gallardo?
Discussion
Hi all
I am currently looking at getting a Gallardo when i have sold my current toys, i have seen two black 04 cars go through BCA auctions at early 60`s a couple of months back, what prices do you think the trade will be paying for an 04 car at the moment and what sort of margin do you think they work on, 6/7k or more?.
Any pointers are much appreciated
thanks

ONE year ago the bids on my 04 car with 6K miles ( when i could get a bid) were about 70K with retail prices for that car at 90K.I am currently looking at getting a Gallardo when i have sold my current toys, i have seen two black 04 cars go through BCA auctions at early 60`s a couple of months back, what prices do you think the trade will be paying for an 04 car at the moment and what sort of margin do you think they work on, 6/7k or more?.

In todays market very early 70K for a good car is where its at IMHO.
As to what prices tthe trade are paying- youmay find you dont get bids for the car at all.

Early gallardo prices have really stabilsed during the last twelve months, with no real change at all. early cars are still fetching around the 80K mark. Typically a dealer will give you round the 65k mark.
Andy.
Stabalised in retail terms yes, as dealers just sit on the stock. But the buying prices continue to drop as traders know to thie cost they are stuck with the car for a long timeAndy.

I would almost say that prices have possibly raised a little since i bought in back in Oct. There were a few around with 10-15k miles for high 70's back then.. then there were none around for about 6-8 weeks and now I have noticed there are a few appearing for around 85k.. with 8-15k miles.
Questions remains is, are they selling at this price?
Even a couple with 20-30k miles are up for high 70's
Any dealer views on this?

Its strange but when i owned mine I was reassured with the prices I saw similar cars for and the fact that I had bought mine for about £6000 less than many I had seen advertised by dealers.Questions remains is, are they selling at this price?

BUT my illusion was shattered when i came to sell it and I know about five owners of these cars who hav owned and sold them- its the same story.

I think that the current climate is causing many dealers to bid low or not to bid at all on high-end (>£100k new) second hand cars. A lot of Porsche dealers are sitting on lots of 997 turbos with low mileages and they are not selling.
I check the Porsche used car website and I can see that some 997 turbos have been on sale for 6 months - each month they take a book drop of c. £1000 - that's a lot of capital to tie up in a depreciating asset.
I have been looking for a Gallardo - I think used prices for early models are falling and have further to drop. Unless you have the right clutch and the right colour and options it's hard to sell. The Gallardo is a great car (I want to buy one in maybe 6 months after I sell my Vantage) but - in my view - it's a lot more hassle to buy second had compared to a similar priced 997 turbo.
If I was buy a Gallardo right now I would offer low in cash - make it clear that you'll do the deal but you want a discount on the listed price. And I'd want to make sure it had the right clutch (I think the latest and greatest is the sintered type 'E').

Right clutch, right color, right options and the price has to be low other wise the car will never sell.
As mentioned its the same for all supercars but I neevr had any problem with ferrari or Porsche- even with the wrong colour or spec!!
Its all very well saying sell privately, but not that many punters about to spend that kind of money and no warranty from lambo does not help!

How do you see V8 Vantage prices in 6 months? IMO they've got a lot further to drop. I'd be tempted to get out of that one asap and into a Gallardo, which won't drop so far and which (as you say) are not selling, so might be had for a cheeky cash bid. Have you sold these problem free Ferrari & Porsches in the current economic climate or are you comparing apples with pears and making a nice blancmange for yourself? Not trying to make a nice blancmange at all- just stating my experiences as they were at the time

Hmm, that's a toughie. I think that the Vantage is a lovely car but it faces a challenging time in the second hand market for a number of reasons(a) The N400 - a lot of people complained that the Vantage is/was underpowered - the N400 goes some way to fix this
(b) The maybe Prodrive Vantage (factory fit, not retro-fit)
(c) The speedster - a LOT of people have sold Vantages to buy speedsters
(d) General economic situation
The used G is not selling for (in my opinion) these reasons
(a) The current impact of the R8
(b) The potential impact of the R10
(c) The whole clutch/reliability issue
(d) The dealers are rubbish
(e) It's not a daily driver and it's cold and grey outside, so why bother at the moment?
(f) General economic situation
I am not sure which set of reasons is more compelling on a financial basis. I have indeed been thinking about shifting the Vantage but I only bought it in September so it's a bit soon. I want to get a reasonable run out in it - get out in some twisties and spank it a bit.
If I did buy a Gallardo I'd need one with the hydraulic lifting kit (North London roads are a killer) which is not available on the earlier models. The cheapest G with lifting kit I have seen was £98k. But there's no way I'd hit that - I'd be more interested in £70k. It's a buyers market and you can see that the book drop on a G is >£1,000 per month, so you either take a big hit or face who knows how long having the car for sale.
Why - are you selling a G?? Fancy a p/x on a Vantage for a G??
