Looking at getting into a Gallardo in the next few months.
Looking for peoples opinions on what is the best choice for transmission. I know preference is a big part of this, but what are peoples general opinions that have experienced the car, be great to hear what people think.

I tried an e-gear spyder, an e-gear SL, and a manual Spyder, before getting my Spyder as a manual.

Just didn't like the e-gear at all, it felt like it would be fine when pressing on, on a track, but gimmicky for general road use and especially annoying in traffic (but maybe I'm just ham fisted). Embarrassing huge throttle blips when slowing gently up to a traffic light too.

A Lambo has to have the polished metal gear gate IMHO.

But it is ALL down to personal taste. Have fun.

Horses for courses, I went for the e-gear & love it, but then again, in this part of the world we don't really encounter heavy traffic (unless you class cows on the road as heavy!) and most trips out make full use of the gear changes smile

The throttle blip only occurs if you are still well up the rev range for the next gear when changning down, so it is possible to drive it very quietly, alternativley, you can always bung it in automatic mode if in slow traffic too.

One benefit is apparently of e-gear is that you can check the clutch wear on via the ECU, whereas for a manual you have to actually inspect it.

Andrew are you really a true Lambo driver? Embarrassing huge throttle blips - thats what you pay the money for, there great.

You should buy an E-Gear and stick a Tubi on it. I have driven everything from a LP640 Roadster to a Zonda Roadster F and I cannot find anything better than my Gallardo E-Gear with a Tubi on it.

I don't go for this idea that a manual is traditional idea, get whats best and that is an E-Gear for sure. I have 3 friends who have manuals and after driving mine they all wished they had and E-Gear. Don't make the same mistake. I think residuals are better

Not a fan of Egear...manual much more fun! Can't beat it especially on twisty roads,

One of the reasons I would never buy a F-car.

But it is preferance, take both out in city and on some open road.

BTW Egear is better for resale as Gallardo's are sold 9:1 in favour in Egear

good luck

Personally I think the e-gear is far superior (I had a Manual Gallardo , then a e-gear Superleggera)

The speed of change and throttle blip make it a real weapon on fast roads or track

I think if the TopGear feature where they had the Orange SL if it was e-Gear the GT3 wouldn't have seen it for dead. On twisty roads if free's your time up so much you can seriously work on your breaking and cornering

Where I don't like e-gear are things like parking and inching it forwards towards my garage wall

Horses for courses Mr holly, glad you like e-gear, pity we can't all be perceptive as to what makes a truly great Lambo driver like wot U can tongue out

Thanks for the info fella's, will probably go with Egear.
Now i have to decide, 05 or 06, is the 06 really worth the premium they are commanding?

Ive heard that Egear are a lot easier on the clutch due to the computer controling cluch slip and matching revs etc.

06 have more power, shorter gear ratios, revised suspension better Exhaust and in most cases the nicer looking calisto wheels.

If it were my choice id go for the 06, And what with spyders dropping and not being that more expensive than the coupe, It would be very tempting not to go for one of those

Thing is, the 06 cars are about 15-20k more than the 05's, really is alot of money for some extra hp and gear ratios.
Not saying im not tempted though!

Wouldnt that make the manuals rarer, thus more expensive - or not?

I still cant quite get my head around what makes the Egear itself is so much more desirable over a manual? scratchchin Horses for courses I suppose.

E-gear and other flappy paddle gear boxes of this quality seem to be reserved for super cars, so I imagine that someone first coming into the market at that level is going to want to try it if they have come up through the ranks. I'm sure if things like mx5's and the like had e-gear and it was as common as any other option, manuals would be more popular.

Manual for me ...don't like egear in traffic and the manual is sublime ..(love the clack clack of changing gear as well)

As for the exhaust why bother with a tubi on a post MY06 car ? Lot of money......

Listen to this - first is a tubi second is a standard exhaust (albeit fiddled with slightly) be it that slightly was 15 mins of work...nothing else
