After having previously owned old porsche's, TVR's and a couple of old ferrari's, I've decided to dip my big toe in the Lamborghini pool.
I'm realistic about running costs, etc, and I've narrowed it down to either a Jarama, Jalpa or Espada. Just trying to find out where the best place might be to start looking for one (I'd rather pay more and get a decent one to start with). I think my favourite is the Jarama, but I've only ever seen one for sale!
Also, if there are any owners on here with any of the above, I would really welcome some 'owners views'.
Thanks

Can't help with those particular models. But would say the for sale section Lamborghini Club would be a good place to start (still haven't joined the club yet myself - must do that soon.)
Send a PM to David Price - PH username XXVIII - he has a lovely looking Jarama, and is heavily involved with the LCUK.

Paul McCartney's old Espada S2 is up for sale on fleabay at the mo.
Been on show for the past 10 years and has not been started so would need some fettling and tlc.
You must be a dab hand with a spanner now you've had TVR's
That espada has been hanging upside down in a club for the past ten year's i e-mailed the guy about it. the best place to find a good lambo is by joining the lamborghini club as there are lambo for sale and you can count on the club cars being well looked after.Been on show for the past 10 years and has not been started so would need some fettling and tlc.

Lee - I'll send you an email just as soon as the noise of typing on this keyboard doesn't make my head hurt even more (if you know what I mean) - I didn't drink too much yesterday evening, honestly I didn't!
re. the McCartney Espada - that's best left for Sir Paul to buy back in my opinion! At least he might be able to stand the fact that to make it what it once was will cost more than the purchase price x 4... It's a tough fact o' life - uncared for old Lamborghinis (such as this car) will cost upwards of £manylotsindeed to make as they should be or should only be viewed as 'rolling updates and restorations' otherwise or even 'will one day be rolling...' project cars.
Leslie (Urraco250S) and I were honoured (correct word I think!) to be on the little 2 car LCUK stand at the Alexandra Palace show last year with a gorgeous Urraco 3000 (an excellent drive, like all the Lambo V8s!!) and a Series 1/2 Espada which the owner had bought in 2003 for less than £7k and who had then spent the money needed to make it the £30k value car it should be.
Valiantly, the chap has spent nearly £50k to do that including purchase price!
He would say he does things like that for the sake of the cars and for the sake of making them as close to perfect as they can be.. You should see his glorious white Miura, his excellent 400GT and his topnotch Jarama S or have ever seen his fabulous LP400 Countach or the truly gorgeous and very shiny black Espada he had before the car mentioned above! Joining LCUK would make seeing those cars happen sooner than otherwise by the way!
This long-standing LCUK Member does this kind of thing for the purpose of making these older Lamborghinis continue to be as they were meant to be... he just doesn't tend to drive them as much as he should, but would you in these circumstances?

Oi the Espada: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...
Check Jay Leno's website for the vid and you'll be hooked for sure.
The Jarama is a bit of an odd looking car, not sure if it's as spacious in the back as the E. I can sit comfy there (1.86m).
Now an Islero
is the car to have if you really want to have all eyes on you . . .
Running costs: take care of the car and the car will take care of you. Lambo's need to be driven . . . hard.

In my experience owning the older cars is more of a(costly) labour of love which isn't for the faint hearted.
Personally, from your list, I'd go for the Jarama S as the performance/handling is outstanding/scary -it's also incredibly rare -however, the aesthetics are not to everybody's taste and you may not always have the line of drooling admirers that other Lambos attract (partly as most people won't know what it is) - it's incredibly thirsty as well.

Happy New Year Iain - we really, really need to swap cars for a bit of 'valid comparison making' driving at some point this year!
There IS an Jslero S in Cheshire which may be for sale soon - think I've mentioned it before - and it's still on original (?) Italian reg. plates and may now no longer be entirely dust-covered...
If this car is as unfaffed with as it sounds, I suspect there may be a queue of potential buyers both in the UK and further afield, like the field where the Concorso Italiano takes place near Monterey or the field where the long-fabled 'Gathering of Front-engined Lamborghinis' takes place in er, ahem, er Uklandia...
A personal opinion about Espadas - if you can't sit in the driver's seat, ask to sit in the back. There is something quite perverse about sitting in the back of a Lamborghini in great comfort - it's certainly not something you can do in any other Lamborghini, even if you have only got Toulouse-Lautrec-esque legs!
edited to spell Jslero like it really should be spelt!

Hi Dave - Happy New Year!
Personally I think to take on something like this you probably have to have a modicum of knowledge about engines (or a deep desire to learn) or know somebody who does because, although they are 'bullet proof', they have a tendency to flit from one niggle to the next - after all they aren't getting any younger

Hey thanks guys, I didn't expect such an enthusiastic response!
I completely appreciate that running an old Lambo is never going to be cheap, but I'm not interested in an older Lambo because I'm on a tight budget, rather I just love the 70's styling and detailing that these cars have. At the end of the day, I would fully expect a 70's Lambo to cost more to run than a new one - but that's the price you pay for owning a work of art. And as for fuel consumption, well I can't even remember the last 'fun' car that I had that did over 14mpg
Going back to the original post, my initial thoughts are aimed at a Jarama - but of course having never even seen one in the flesh, i'll wait and see if I can actually fit in it first! BTW, I'm 5'10 if anyone can confirm that I will fit, I would be grateful!
David, thanks for the e-mail, I did try to call you but I guess you were out. I'll try to get hold of you tomorrow.
All the best
Lee

There's a UK Jalpa and P300 and a Swiss Jalpa at http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/
Also there: Belgium red Jalpa, one of the 177 made Jarama's, green USA Espada and:

Islero chassis 6156. 1967. Aqua verde, tan leather and carpets. Borrani wire wheels, 50000 KMS fully rebuilt engine and gearbox, stainless exhaust, a superb vehicle in concours condition, £35,000.
Seems like a fair deal to me
LUCK has this in the classifieds:

yep - out yesterday evening trying/helping to prevent some 'developers' from building 60 'dwellings' on a space big enough for perhaps 15 - 20 actual houses in the village where I live. Shocking state of affairs when people keep trying to turn this ancient place into somewhere where 'young professional' can buy 'trendy townhouses' fek, fek,fek,fek...
I will call later but would mention that at 5'10" you are only the size that only 'fits' into every Lamborghini ever built!

Isn't that Islero JBs (of DeTomaso fame) old car? I thought it went to Australia (just goes to show you should never believe all you hear).
What happened to the Roger Moore car?
the car in the pic may well be JB's ol' car - I thought it was a bit more turquoise than that, though it might just be my screen! JB being JB tends to say one thing until another thing applies, if you know what I mean!!What happened to the Roger Moore car?
As for the Roger Moore car - who knows? It was a brown car wasn't it? If the ILR doesn't know then who knows???
I'm chasing up the Jslero that's up this neck of the woods and will report soon!!
For anyone who doesn't know it, the 'ILR' referred to is The International Lamborghini Registry. The ILR is maintained by a chap called Glen Kohut who lives in Canada and it is considered to be one of the world's best authorities for all matters to do with any age of Lamborghini - definitely a beach with many more grains of sand than others!
