I am considering buying a used Gallardo or a DB9 but have been scared off abit about the depreciation stories mentioned in a few of the posts here for the Gallardo,

What would be a good rule for age of car thats already suffered the most depreciation, I guess first 12 months is a very big hit, I probably need to consider age vs our of warrently, repairs if the car is too old etc.

Also are all the Gallardos doors open outwards or are any of the models the upwards doors ?

Hi.. your best bet would be around 05 year which would of had considerable depreciation already and some warranty remaining too... probably looking at between 85 and 90k... the gallardo doors all open outwards and only the V12 cars open upwards! and you might find the aston depreciates even more...

If you really want the scissor doors talk to 'speed_EM' on here. I believe he has had a conversion done, and it does look very nice in my opinion.

Those post-build 'scissor' doors aren't actually the same thing as those on a Countach, a Diablo or a Murciélago... they lift the door away from the car and only then swing it upwards and worst of all...

...you can get 'that' kind of modification for any car, even a Nissan Micra (pictures of that sort of modification should be somewhere on the net if you want to be bothered looking for them!)

Automobili Lamborghini still intend that only the top of their range is fitted with scissor doors - this being the reason why the Gallardo was never designed to have them fitted and certainly never intended to have them retro-fitted anywhere else either.

The 06 MY car, which featured many upgrades and had excellent press reviews, has been holding it's value well and is worth the extra over an 05 car.

I would go for an early car and save myself some money! when the revised model arrives this year It's the later cars that will suffer!
