I'm gonna say it's worth an asking price IRO £38k-£40k. Maybe even a smidge more... £40k-£42k at a push, maybe.1996 N 355 Spider, RHD UK car, Red, Crema leather with red stitching, red carpets, wheels perfect, pirelli tyres almost new, alpine cd player, mot and tax, 37k miles and fsh (cambelt (inc tensioners) and main service done July 07 (about 300 miles since)). Mainly the two overriding issue have been people description of : Full service history and excellent condition !!!!
Of the 10 I have seen the resluts are as follows by location all described as perfect !!! :
Sheffield : Overspray on glass, rust on both front wings, seats worn / not working so roof didnt work, no Mot about 3 services in the last 7 years £45,995 was for sale at two different dealers for 12 months ( went through auction for 29k Now back for sale £36,995)
Aston :Rust on front wings, pulled to the left on a roads and to the right at speed, steering wheel off set !!, Dents in both doors, service history lost but they can find it ... yeah right !!
High Wycombe : Hole in roof (owner claimed it wasnt a hole even though I could put a pen through it in front of his eyes !!!), Bumper scratched, Chipped wing (50p size) wet carpets, £47,995 been for sale for 9 months at three dealer and as private sale.
None of the issues really bother me at all as they can mostly be fixed for a price, the frustration is the way people describe the cars
One of the guys asked me to work out how much it would cost to put right and it worked out at about 10k at which point he said " Oh yeah thats similar to what the last guy said last month, and the dealer has only offered me 32k in part ex against a 360 "
I just can't see why people can't be honest ?

Used car buying... don't you just love it, eh? Seems it's the same whether it's a Fiesta or a Fezza; you get the same old stories, the same lies and exaggerations of the truth. When I first started looking for a 355, I had this naive expectation that they would all be mint (because when you goto shows or see a Fezza on the road, they all look that way). However, there are some dogs around... rusty, accident damaged, ragged and tired. Genuinely good ones aren't as easy to find as you might think. It's also easy, I think, to fall into the trap of letting your heart rule your head. I looked at a few before I found mine and saw my fair share of rusty cars and stories (excuses for missing reciepts, patchy history, etc, etc). When I eventually found mine, it was so nice to deal with a chap who was totally honest and accurate in his description of the car (down to every last stone chip). The car had no 'stories' attached and just seemed 'right'. It flew through a PPI and a deal was done.
By the way, that car in Edinburgh was cheap!
Cheers,
Ian.

I didn't see the Edinburgh one ... so it may have been cheap for a reason !!!
Starting to see a few more comming up with 35 -38k on the clock now, I am really looking for a later 5.2 car and there seem to be a few more of those about as well, it seems very hard to spend money on a decent car !!!
People seem deluded that you are just going to buy a ferrari no matter how bad it is !!! My mums original 73 dino is in better nick than most of the 355's I have seen !!!!

I think some people might stretch themselves to buy a 355 with the aid of finance, etc and kid themselves that they'll be able to afford to run it, so servicing and upkeep gets neglected leading to a growing number of tired examples on the market. These cars need to be kept garaged and driven only on sunny days to remain in great shape (either that, or a lot of money spent on constant upkeep if they're used daily and/or kept outside). Keep searching... you'll find a nice one at the right price eventually.Cheers,
Ian.
I have my name down with Dion, nice guy
I also think Ian is right re the servicing of 10 I have looked at at least 5 have needed ( or been overdue for) major services or major's and belts.
When I sold my last 993 I had it serviced and put a new roof on it sold easily ( for good money) with no hassles
which looked like .... all I want is a 355 in similar nick !!!!

Thing is though, you're better off getting a 355 soon, as its predicted from this year onwards, the prices are going to rise like with the old 250 GTO's.
And Jonty your looking to sell yours when ..............
....... when the prices have gone up! [report] 12:50

Looked at quite a few two years ago when I bought mine - some were a real mess then - must be awful now!
I looked at one from a trader which (a) didnt start (not without some serious messing around) (b) Had lots of paint damage (needed total respray) (c) hood didnt work (d) tyres were slick and the interior was a mess. Still wanted top money!!!
Prices suggestions are interesting.
What do people think about price differences between now and april/may time? What sort of increase to price will occur?

How much will they improve by April / May ?
I would say this .... but I can't see them going up much with the 360 comming down so much i.e http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/345597.htm ( and yes I am so tempted !!!) and the fact the global economy seems to be taking a dive.
I guess what will happen is that the good ones will sell all year round in good time and the poor ones will stick for months on end
edited to add I may however be talking utter drivvel !!! I am just hoping that the one I am looking at on saturday is a good one !!!!
