Blue Anniversary at auction
Discussion
Does anyone out there know more about the candy apple blue anniv Countach that failed to sell at auction at Coys earlier this month ? Coys provide all of the history that they have available but there are no official books with the car.
http://www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php?auction=73&...
In 1989 or 1990 Fosters Brewing had a competition here in Australia where the prize was a Countach in Fosters blue. I think that it was exported after the winner sold it.
I am looking at bringing a QV or anniversary over here and have been trying to figure out realistic prices as opposed to what some people are asking. Is 45k to 50k about right for a good car with history?
Thanks
Paul

That is a good price for a QV or an Anniversary in good condition and with good history... the price in recent months has been heading a little higher - say £55-£60k and sometime even more.
That blue car that was auctioned is a little bit distant from that standard, by all accounts and as verified by the no-sale situation as well! You'll have noticed the '5 Star' references has been dropped in relation to the car as well... I was never that certain that they actualy applied in relation to this car anyway!
Good luck with getting it or one like to to Australia - is the import duty still colossal? I really shouldn't encourage you, we like to keep UK registered Lamborghinis in the UK if possible but I know of one chap who has an Anniversary who might like to hear from you - pm me via PH if you wish and I'll get back to you in the morning.

Thanks for the reply. With so few around it is tricky getting a true indication of reasonable values. Coys auctioned a 1988 before Chistmas and it all appeared sound:

Osellis had the blue one listed on their site for 55k but it has failed to sell so maybe it really is not a prime example.
I would be interested in making contact with your friend who has one. Thanks.
Import duties are still high here. A 50k car will end up costing 75k landed.
Thanks

That chap's Anniversary was first registered in November 1988, so not importable (unless you know otherwise) A pity as he has had a few offers slightly under his asking price but he would like to sell as advertised and keep the whole Countach values ball rolling along.Import duties are still high here. A 50k car will end up costing 75k landed.
Thanks

I'll keep in touch with anything else that would work but could you tell PH folk some more about the import sustem to Australia and those eye-watering extra costs for people like yourself even before a car gets off the boat?
Thanks for all of your help.
Our system here in Australia makes it very hard to import anything built after 1st Jan 1989. Cars built after this date need to be more compliant with our ADRs ( Australian Design Rules ). Cars built before this date go through a simpler process so this is why I can only look at early build Anniversaries, QVs and maybe the LP5000S if a good one came up. It does not matter when the car was delivered or first registered, along as the chassis plate gives the right date.
Import duties are part of a very messy system designed to hide the real costs from the consumer. The buyer of a new BMW rarely has a clue as to what percentage of the purchase price is tax.
Start with the actual price of the car and add freight/handling costs. Add 10% duty to the total. This gives the taxable value.
Add 10% GST (VAT) to the taxable value.
Any part of this total above about 25k pounds is also subject to a 25% luxury car tax.
In Victoria we also pay 4% duty when registering or transferring a registration. The duty is not on what you actually paid for the car, it is on the total cost including other taxes. So we are paying taxes on taxes on taxes on taxes!
An Aston Martin V8 Vantage costs Aus$260k without any options. The exchange rate is around 0.45 currently but has spent more time around 0.40 for the last decade.

yes yes, it is still floating around. had interest in buying this car.saw it on photos, not bad.
drove with trailer from the continent, 500+miles to near Oxford last Saturday May 24th.From the street, wow, what a nice shining car, but..... from near, oh oh.... No wonder this car didn`t sell at Coys. The paint is ok, but there are several minor dents in the body, not so worth, but there are also several blisters, a sign that the aluminium under the paint is well corroding.
Driver side door is deteriorating underneath, the plexiglas cover for the front lights is milky,
all the pistons for door, hood, engine bay, and trunk are dead. The trunk opening mechanism is not working.Tires are near dead. This car was probably repainted inclusive the window frames which is not original, those should be in black. The interior is very dirty and the leather on the entrance sill is badly damaged.however, those are only minor problems compared to the car`s mechanic.
Clutch is completely worn out, engine is running and not smoking, but the timing chaines are and maybe the cams are dead. When shutting down the engine (after 60 seconds, so still cold)you fear this typical very bad sound of wornout main crank bearings .
Apparently this car has been stored for several years, but very very badly, all steel parts are rusty, even the fixingscrews on the 2 part alu rims. The car has a Quick Silver stainless sports exhaust, believe it or not, copmletely rusty.I have the same on mine for 4 years now, and not a single spot on it.To be honest, this car is not worth half its price. To bring it back to a good and nice runner, think about spending at least 30.000 Pounds, concourse condition, near 45.000-50.000. And as the car is not driveable, i can not tell if the gearbox is ok or not.
IMHO, spend some pounds more and buy a good and reliable car, there are still some out there, and
let this rundown piece in the barn.
wish you all a nice day

I know somebody else who looked at this one and reported exactly the same as allmight.

had much the same report as well, probably from the same chaps as TSS knows.
Shame that what appears to be a great car is actually not and that
"its a £35k-ish purchase + a string of big bills"
would have to be the unfortunate diagnosis for this poor car.
btw, this car is NOT the 5 Star Anniversary - it's only the same colour (or thereabouts)...

A little bird tells me that you could possibly bag this one for £40k.
