Hi Leslie,

I'd be surprised if it is that low above 4k, perhaps that was measured from a distance to meet E.U road noise regulations laugh

Sorry Jon, could only hear bits of exhaust bouncing along the tarmactongue out

Have you got the new car yet??

Not sure what the exact level is but both the Gallardo superleggera and spyder were too loud for Castle Coombe back in July and could only do a parade lap

worring news in the times

Drivers of noisy cars face on-the-spot fines

Police could soon have the technology to pull over noisy vehicles and issue on-the-spot fines. The Department for Transport is planning to develop portable noise meters able to identify cars with exhausts that exceed legal decibel (dB) levels.

Current laws restrict exhaust noise to 74dB on all new mass-produced cars. But exhausts deteriorate and become noisier, and some drivers fit sporty exhaust systems, which are louder.

“The main problem is with members of the so-called ‘cruiser’ community who want meaty exhausts on their modified cars — they’re often too noisy,” says Nigel Wonnacott of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Authorities have powers against excessively noisy vehicles, but there is no simple way to measure decibel levels. However, Stephen Ladyman, the transport minister, said in a parliamentary answer that the department was considering a quick roadside exhaust-noise test, and would commission research to develop a suitable device.

The plans will have no effect on drivers who cause a nuisance by blasting out loud music on souped-up stereo systems — one of the biggest sources of public complaints.

A transport department spokesman said: “It would be very difficult to carry out roadside noise measurements of sound systems as people would just turn down the music.”

One recent study into vehicle noise found that rush-hour noise levels have risen in some cities to more than 80dB — sufficient to cause hearing damage. The study also found that Newcastle upon Tyne was Britain’s noisiest city.

Thanks

Leslie

Thank RR, I thought it would be struggling to meet noise regs anywhere and am guessing Castle Coombe is no different to anywhere else nowadays.

As for banning noisy exhausts on mass produced vehicles Leslie, the sooner our local chav & his cavalier gets silenced the better!

No worries, they did try and muffle the super but it was still too loud:

Not sure if the cars were both factory standard so they may have had performance exhausts or somthing that made them louder.

As for the article, what do they mean by a 'mass produced car' as there are probably more chaved up escorts and focus' in the country then there are Gallardos
