Great pic that - one of the best ones from that time! Imagine the current costs of that much Miura-metal and those engines now, let alone then!

The floor tiles you can see in the picture are still there! The curator of Museo Lamborghini makes a point of saying that to people who visit, especially people who visit with their Lamborghinis (old or new), who are asked to note that their car was built on that floor!

Journalists and other observers in the 1960's often made comments that the floors at the Sant'Agata factory was always kept clean and shiny and that one could almost eat off them. Judging by some recent images and information, it still is but, in all honesty, nowadays it's becoming quite the thing to take some lunch in the staff canteen - mostly because the food served is restaurant standard at least!

Must be late 1973, early 1974 i guess, seeing the engines in the back have the gearbox in line (longitudinale posteriori) and thus must be for the Countach...

Actually, there were no Miuras being built at that time so those 'other' engines will be for Espadas or possibly Isleros (not much difference engine-wise really, being essentially the same 3,929cc V12 engine for FRONT engined Lamborghini cars)

That image is much more likely to be a late 1960's picture. The Miura ceased production before the Countach was first sold in the mid-70's, so it's extremely unlikely that the engines for both were laid out next to each other at any time especially in such numbers!

Lovely as that picture is, (and as much as Automobili Lamborghini has a well deserved reputation for a tidy, tidy factory - even these days), that's a 'staged' picture according to the author of a book published in the 1980's by one of Automobili Lamborghini's favourite authors.

'Famous Car Factories - Lamborghini' by Stefano Pasini may well be out of print now but you could search for ISBN 0-87938-557-X or take a look in somewhere like Chater's... Sgnr. Pasini will have known / knows the photographer, or else will know somebody who may have been there, the day that picture was taken...

Stefano Pasini has also written many articles and a number of books (in many languages!) about Lamborghini cars. He was, (probably still is), the secretary of the Lamborghini Silhouette register and famously owns the very early Silhouette that is featured in the museum at Sant'Agata.

Lamborghini Silhouettes are the proverbial chicken's fangs of all Lamborghinis as only 54 of them were ever built. They are fabulous cars to drive and are a car you should have just one answer ready to use if anybody asks you to drive one.

This answer is obviously 'yes, please' but you should try not to dribble too much when you collect the keys and should also try not to empty the fuel tank more than twice before you bring it back. (ahem).

...and looking at the image in that book mentioned above, that's probably as good as it get's - I'd say it was well outside copyright considerations by now as well, (he said, only slightly in fear of reprisal!), so get scanning / printing etc - nobody will know, nobody reads what I write anyway!

Your mate with the SV would be... (my bet is his first name begins with 'G'...)

Thanks David smile I might have to do that then. Such a cool cool shot.

Not him I am afraid. Car is listed on the Lamborghini Registry, but has got the wrong details and owner on their. He isn't keen though about updating the info or joining the club-its just not his thing. I am looking forward to a drive of it soon smile
