See loads of new low mileage exotics/luxury cars for sale - so what generally is the reason for selling for the first owner?- i would have expected anticipation and excitement for the new exotic arrival and YET only for it to be up for sale shortly after
bored with car?
expensive to maintain?
financial difficulties?
always like to change?
feel car is old after only few thousand miles?
profiteering?

Has always been the case hasn't it? I've dared to do 7k miles in mine in 12 months and it's only just run in. I find the mileage issue completely and utterly bizarre. What is the point for instance of ferrari building the likes of the 612, clearly an uber euro mile muncher, if it's perceived to have too many numbers on a little dial when they click past 10k?

End of the day they are all just machines, which are built to move, yet many of them rarely do. silly

I wonder whether a few will have been bought under the motorbility scheme (not sure if that is the correct title) whereby a registered disabled person can reclaim or not pay the VAT and hence when when they are then put up for sale at or about list price someone makes 17.5%.

There were a few news items about this in the NW last summer and the Merc dealer I have used for many years sold a Merc CLK Black (the £170k ish version) under this scheme.

You don't want to get caught out with fraud on that... you'll get taken to the cleaners...

A serious note about disability, there is a guy in France (or might be Switzerland) on LamboPower who has no use of his legs and has had his Gallardo converted for hand control of the throttle and brake.

Think he uses the Lamborghini as his main car ---- great story

I appreciate that most new super car owners are not concerned about money but i wonder if they are worried about putting to many miles on the clock for fear of re-sale value???

Many may be speculators who are simply turning them for a profit over list price!

O/T, but Black Gallardo? He was at Hockenheim for the open track session prior to the Ferrari Racing Days last year. It was French-registered.

I'm wondering whether people who can afford mad money for cars ever worry about depreciation?

I think that very few people who can afford supercars are wasteful and not worried about the cost. I think it is more the case that they know what the costs will be and accept those costs to indulge their enjoyment. However, dropping 25% of their money on a supercar in 6 months of ownership probably didn't feature in their original plan.

most of these cars are bought as second or third cars,by people who can afford them because they work hard and long hours....hence not a lot of time to drive them..
once they have had them, the need to keep them is not so great....they move on to the next itch to scratch...as far as depreciation is concerned...they are aware of it,but consider it a price worth paying imo
