ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

Just been to Lamborghini High Wycombe to collect my roadster (an all day event). One of the main jobs I wanted was to fix the two red warning lights "check engine L", "check engine R". They reconed that re-setting the computer would sort it. Anyway after being there 3 weeks, I reversed it out of the garage to leave for home, and on they came again!!

I took it to them straight after collecting it from Mike Pullen who took the engine out and checked the whole thing over, including all the electrical contacts.
The engine is perfect.

Even though there appears to be nothing wrong with the car I'm determined not to let it win! It must be perfect with no red light on. (I'm weird like that).

The light will stay off for a long time on a straigh flat road and then come on when I brake or exit a turning generally, then go off again once on an open road.

So I left the car at High Wycombe and came home without it. I hope that they'll be able to sort it. They've done a good job on sorting my hydraulic suspension and it now lifts! Mind, it cost 8K. Lovely place, some amazing cars there.

Has anyone else had anything similar with these warning lights? (no suggesting to remove the bulbs please.

Mine have come up a couple of times, just ignore them.

Or drive a bit slower and they go off.

Dear Pete,

You are not as weird as the elastictrickery can be in any Lamborghini - especially a Lamborghini that's now owned by someone who likes that sort of thing to be perfect!!

My Jarama has an interesting but seemingly useless dial just where it can easily be fiddled with, especially waiting at traffic lights or in a slow-jam.

It appears to have no function, but being just to the side of the cigarette lighter, the best guess is that it's a fancy control to make the lighter get hotter for lighting a cigar and less hot for a quick fag lighting moment.

This has so far proved to be neither the case or even not the case as the cigarette lighter itself is totally non-functioning...

There is a really simple solution to my quandry - I don't worry about it especially as I stopped smoking when I bought the car anyway! You might find that the problem you have may never go away or if it does it gets replaced by a strange, untraceable smell in the boot space or even an intermittent noise from the clamps for the roof when it's mounted over the engine...

I'm sure it's called 'character' which is, as you may already know, resistance forming! (eh?) silly

Thanks for the moral support guys. But it just annoys me the way its on then off, then on. It's my car trying to tell me that I should have known better and bought another mondeo. It must be fixed at all costs (but don't tell the garage that). As I said, the error light on the suspension was only a matter of a mere 8K ;o)

Presumably it's possible for them to trace where the signal comes from to illuminate the dash? But then they'll need to be running down the road chasing the car with the test harness as it only comes on intermittently whilst driving.

I don't even know what specific components that the Check Engine lights actually refer to. I'm an optimist and expecting good news tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll be disappoionted, I know.

Yeah I saw her there. Beautiful. My friend that wanted it must be kicking himself. Love the wheels and interior. I can see why you wanted it.

What's she in for?

By the time I get my bits of paintwork done etc, my roadster will stand me in for more than your 6.0. Oh well, price I've paid for insisting on a purple one I suppose.

There's a lovely yellow murcielago roadster there that's available. I'd have had it, only trouble is, I bought my wife 2 brand new mercedes last week and I'm gonna get if I'm not careful.

Wife and children eh? They're nothing but a burden to us supercar owners!

My nephew was with me and really liked your car. pee'ed me off a bit!
I think the way the 6.0 has a wider front end is really nice.
Mind that cost with give me a mint car (until something decides to break). It's a one off, so couldn't shop around for one that didn't need a bit of TLC. where abouts are you based?

yes Portsmouth.
I've been told that your roadster needs a bit of work, but even so, your price on ebay is very competitive.
I'm finding that I want to buy everything I see these days. if only I had Peter Saywell's money. Was interested in that purple murcielago that was for sale up north a couple of weeks ago to make a nice pair, but it was a much darker purple not SE30 purple. And a white M roadster with red interior yummy. Since buying the two new cars for my wife (she wouldn't have a lambo or an aston despite the pressure), (something to do with child seats apparently),I'm trying to keep my head down and not look. Anyway, one moneypit is enough, I'm told.

Guess you won't get to goodwood this year? Too far?

When is goodwood, The roadster only needs about 4-5k on it, so not bad. Part of that is paint as well.

hehe

Re: dash lights... as Jonny5 said it's most likely to be damp in the coil packs. The diagnostics record which ones and - in my case anyway - when I looked at them you could almost pick the likely ones. With new coil packs the problem is LESS but doesn't go away. Some rain or a car wash will usually trigger them.

I don't normally touch a spanner but attended to my coil packs in Norway last year because the dash lights were annoying me - removed them, dried them, sprayed them, the plugs and the recess they sit in with water repellant spray and then they were fine. Changed them when I got home and had the car serviced.

It is a bit boring explaining to passengers why the "Engine Warning" is on. On the Murciélago and Gallardo there is a cover over the tops of the coil packs. At some point I'll work out if it's possible to attach them to a 6.0, seem like a good idea to me. I guess the 5.7 looks similar?

Phil

So nobody is too shocked by the idea, you could post a couple of pics of why your 6 needed a car wash / spray blast / soapy hosing in Norway last year - red lights on the dashboard and damp coils be durned!

A Diablo can look great when it's filthy - very bugcoated is usually good, as long as there aren't too many 'slightly-not-dead' large Nazi-wasps hanging on for one last attack or too much thick yellow bugglop actually sliding down the Bull badge...
