Clear protective film to help save your paintwork
Discussion
Hi All,
I wonder if anyone out there can help?
Now that I just had some stone chips blown in,
I looking to put some of this clear protective film on to my paint work inorder to protect the leading edge of my rear wheel arches.
Does anyone out there know of any companies out there who do this?
Many thanks in advance
Ian

Hi Ian,
waste of time and money. Had the 99SV shielded prior to le mans in 2006. (scurro blue). Paint on bonnet still got chipped through the plastic, showing white primer but of course now you cannot touch it in. The concern now is if you attempt to pull the plastic off will it take some paint with it
. Not something I wish to find out.

Not good to have that happen for sure. As far as my own experience (Armourfend) is concerned, the only bonnet stonechips picked up after fitting are above the film, sod's law but you've got to use these cars. I've taken this film off myself, and re-fitted new stuff, and it didn't harm the paint.waste of time and money. Had the 99SV shielded prior to le mans in 2006. (scurro blue). I had a Ventureshield bra on my Gallardo and had it removed after I scuffed it when I hit a bird. The film came off easily and with no damage. I agree that it is possible to chip the paint through the bra if you hit it hard enough. I also had this happen - and had to remove the bra AGAIN to fix the chip. Again no damage to the paint by removing the bra.waste of time and money. Had the 99SV shielded prior to le mans in 2006. (scurro blue). . Not something I wish to find out. A clearbra may not be a perfect solution but I wouldn't buy a fast car without adding the bra as the first accessory. Unless you fit the bra immediately after painting, you need have no concern about having a professional removing it later.

That would be a matter of opinion! er... just re-read the thread and it seems I may have got the wrong end of the stick...
Another chap in LCUK had the front end of his scuro blue Diablo SV completely fitted with a layer of film (no edge until the windscreen / door edges) and has had great results - so far, despite driving the car extensively in the UK and France.
These things aren't magic tho'! They won't really protect a car from a ruddy great chunk of chav-chucked brick or a storm of not-so small pebbles - but they should make some effort.
If a few stone chips and a coating of compacted insects are a great problem, then keep your car in the garage!
tom off this forum did the gran turismo. The guys knows exactly what he's on about and had a new even clearer film coming in last time I spoke. The gt has a flatspot around the mouth of the grill that has taken many a hit from stones of a decent size. Its all wiped off to be honest tho. The finish and service is excellent also. Top fella and a few in here know him.
