Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting myself my first Ferrari. 996T became very common, therefore I want something different as well as cabrio.
I heard that all Ferrari colours except Rosso Corso could become a nightmare when it comes to selling and a lot of dealers would not even touch them.
I'm planning to get myself 360F1 Spider 2001-2002 in Grigio Alloy with under 20k miles on the clock.
I would be doing not more than 7-8k miles per annum.
How difficult u think would be to sell it in 1.5-2 years time wz aprox 30-35k on the clock in this colour? Should I try to buy cheap in order to afford to sell cheap?
I've seen one on the board for £62k with 17k on the clock which is obviously at least 4-5k cheaper than similar Rosso Corsa...Is it good deal or I should be more looking for £55-57k mark?

With that mileage budget 20K depreciation over 2 years assuming you are selling to the trade at the end of ownership. If you sell privately you might save a couple grand.

Grigio Alloy (nice colour) is the least popular colour (and was the cheapest when I was looking) and the hardest to sell.
Buy the car in the colour/combo you want. I do not know why the red/crema combo is so popular to me it is the last combo to go for (IMHO)smile

I would suggest that with that colour and mileage when you are finished with it, you are going to have to give someone a big big price incentive to take it away. Its a Ferrari thing. I have not heard of higher mileages giving these cars any trouble, but there are many 15-20k mileage cars to choose from. As advised previously, prepare to depreciate £20k. I dont think it will get any worse than that. When I was looking for one, the silver cars did not seem to move. I think red makes the difference between shifting it and not shifting it. But do get one. They are great cars.

Grigio is a lovely colour, but very difficult to sell (in fact there are two advertised in the £58k region, both with low mileage). The only colour harder to sell is silver. If you get the mileage up to 35k the price will dive. Put both mileage and colour together and it will be very diffcult to sell.

BUT fantastic car and does look lovely in that colour. If I didnt care how long it took me to sell it, I would probably buy one in that colour myself!

Or just buy a 355 and save yourself the depreciation. May cost you very slightly more to run as they're older, but I still think its the best car ever! Plus you get pop up headlights!

Thx for replies.

Well, my 2nd option is Rosso Corsa wz crema leather. I think red ones are nice, Rosso Corsa is actually the best red colour imho but they are so common!

So looks like if I gonna go for Grigio Alloy I should ask for HUGE discount shouldn't I?
£50k for Spider anyone? wink

I like the "classical" look of 355 but don't think it is really my cup of tea. I would buy one to put on the driveway but wouldn't buy one for driving wink

Well the 355 is still very drivable, never driven a 360, so sadly I cant compare, but Ive been stuck in traffic, driven through busy cities and given it some on motorways and country roads and Ive not been able to fault the car in any way yet. Quite a few people have said the 360 is a better car to drive, but I cant see how. And personally if I had bought a 360 I'd have always wished I'd have got a 355. Ive never once thought that with the 355 though.

That will explain why, back in 2001, a friend of mine had SO much trouble selling his 9-month old 360 coupe...

I also remember he paid £110,300 for it so it looks like they sure have fallen. Surely the depreciation must have ended by now?

Well looks like to me that the depreciation for F355 have been almost ended but not for 360s. I am looking for past few month for 360 and it seems to me that prices are still falling.

Thats why I'm really concerned about the colour as I really like Grigio Alloy but looks like I would have to find a really motivated seller & buy it cheap so to be prepared to give it away cheap on selling. Potential 20k deprciation for 1 year on the 6-7 years old car sounds pretty much for me

Yes F355 prices seem to have leveled out if not on the rise.
If you buy a Spider for £60ish now it should be worth more than £40k in 1 years time don't see them droping below £40k private/retail by then (maybe for main agent trade in though!)unless they are high on miles there was a car at Verdi with 50k for sale at £49k last October time
360's have taken a big tumble lately but i do not see them falling by huge amounts more in the short term (unless the economy does goes t*ts up).

Don't worry about Rosso Corsa/Crema being commom - it isn't. I had this concern when I bought my car but as soon as I drove it away from the rows of identical cars at my dealers showrooms and stopped looking through pages of ads. every week I realised all Ferraris are v. rare cars. Had my car for five months last year. Did 6,000 miles and saw precisely two other identical cars on the road during that time - and one of those was in Switzerland. Spending time on here makes us feel these cars are the norm. They are not!

Last Saturday I picked up my 360 Spider. I went for Silver with Blue Scuro and love it. It's a bit different to others I have seen and I dont really care about selling it I just want to enjoy it. I took it down to Goodwood on Sunday to test out my new Tubi exhaust and what a great day that was! I saw two more down there as well - one is red with a friendly chap who said hello and one in dark blue.

I recommend giving Dion a call or email at Elms Collection - he will find you a good car and got mine for me 7k less than most dealers were coming up with.

I put a Ferrari Power Warrenty on mine and had it fully serviced so it's all ready for the summer!!

Go for it! you only live once! just have a good slush fund :-)

That is sooo true. My 355 is Rosso Corsa / Crema and in the past year and a bit I have seen precisely zero identical cars driving about on the roads. Infact, I have probably only seen half a dozen ferraris on the road in that time. Car forums can de-sensitise people to how rare and realitively exclusive most of these cars are.

When I took my 355 out for a test drive I saw exactly the same car comming the otherway and then on the way home I had a light blue 355 spider cruise past on the m25

Then on the way down to goodwood saw another red 355

Must move from the south east !!!!!

Only joking, probably wont see another one for six months now !!!!!!

Actualy I think you might be right - spending too much time on here makes us feel Ferrari is as common as BMW 3-series wink
