Simon and Andy and crew will be delighted to accept your challenge of a drag race but I'm guessing you have you never seen thier way-over the top get ups with the great big, flouncy frocks - you've no chance...

Andy usually has a big hat as well, lots of frothy stuff going on and big oranges and other citrus fruit - just call him 'Carmen' and see where that gets you... Simon has enough orange content in SG54, as you may know/will see. and his outfits are usually quite reserved by comparison with Andy's but then, Simon has far, far better shoes...

What did you really think you were paying for, the petrol for the cars or the haute couture?

edited to say: I'm not afraid of you 6th Gear chaps, (I know you are watching!) and I have my own catapult and a pile of stones as well as some sticks with sharp, pointy bits on the end, so there...

I'll be there tomorrow for an LP640 experience, what sort of circuit do they cone out at elvington?

Do they cone out a decent straight like at Brunters so that you can get a reasonable speed built up?

For example brunters coned circuit would allow the 360 spyder to get upto 175leptons.

Apologies for the 4500 rev limit. On Saturday morning both the LP640 and the Stradale failed the static 101db noise tests by 3db. Both are on standard setups. So in order for them to run I had to promise Elvington we'd keep to 4500 for that day on those two cars. They have just been in court a few weeks ago for noise pollution, so are keener than ever about it, especially 15th March which had some special restrictions apparently.

It won't be happening again so if you would like to email me all your details and the date you would like to come (26/27 April, 1&14 June)I'll sort you out 4 more laps in the LP640 on us.

Noise pollution, 3dB too loud on a closed racetrack (which used to be an active airfield FFS!), nanny-state.

what is the world coming to?
are we the most subjugated country around or what?

I feel sorry for you, Simon/Andy, you spend £200k on a car only to be hauled up in front of the beak for being noisy.

hope you're coming to THIS. I don't think Vue have dB meters....

...indeed!

At the Goodwood track in 2002, not long after they introduced noise limit testing, there was a Murciélago that failed the noise test but the conversation about why and by how much it failed was drowned out by noise of a locally-owned helicopter which was passing overhead every few few minutes...

The track on Anglesey has been affected by a few local people who have complained (succesfully, from their point of view) about the noise of both cars actually on the track and cars going to the track on the various approach roads. RAF Valley (not many miles away) provides an almost 24/7 sound backdrop of various fighter jets taking off for training and other purposes...

but, for compensation of sorts:

In 2000, a small-engined Caterham-like car failed its noise test at a Castle Combe track day despite obviously running some kind of silenced exhaust.

Nobody mentioned that a Diablo with a pipe that was essentially made of fresh air and some thin tubes of a very direct and unobstructive nature had just been started at the same time by the enthusiastically- revving-the-nuts-off-the-car owner. The Diablo was at least 100 yards away because we made him be that far from the rest of anyone from LCUK as we valued our hearing!

Said owner is, obviously (?), a mathmatics professor... he would have been making sure he was able to count the firing pulses properly before multiplying them to work out his precise fuel consumption for his few minutes of carving the grass up around the edges of the track.
He always insisted that Lamborghinis would one day be very-grey coloured like his Diablo was / is - we laughed because we had seen spyshots of the Diablo replacement which some people said was going to be available in very-orange...

Hello Everyone,
i work for Simon and Andy and the 6th Gear team. I have worked for many track day companiess as an avents organisor and instructor. Everyone who came at nthe weekend had a fantastic time and the team made evryone feel incredibly welcome.
I would recommend any one to come to try out the beautiful selection of cars that are maintained to the highet standard. its impressive compared to most companies that have been doing this for years.

The noise limit at static was 103db on the day as the Ferrari 360 i was instructing in came in cloe at 102.7db. we nearly did not make it onto circuit either.
All circuits have to abide to this including Bruntingthorpe who have encountered lengthy battles with the councils, the threat of planes landing again is what i believe to be the only thing stopping teh councils banning track days altogether. The local residents would have something to complain about then.

Silverstone has varied DB restrictions on almost every day of the year dependant on dates and event types.

Same really as the cars sound wonderful when they are at their best...... FAST!

Fraser,

Glad to hear you had a great day, sorry i didn't catch you before you left. Did you manage to fit in the Atom OK? Same deal applies for you with a re-visit on the LP. call the office and they will book you in for another 4 laps, when i have sorted out the silencing.

Thanks

Andy.
