Found this whilst searching for spare wheels for the Exige:

I wonder if this is the one that caught fire at Bedford.

cat b so parts only (can not be put back on the road)

not really a lot to save - perhaps front wings bonnet and wheels, disks etc
but with that fire / temp not sure even these parts will still be straight

could always cut the front off and mount it in the side of you house wall like you get in those silly US dinners

The one from Bedford was rebuilt by Micheletto in Italy at a cost of €130k, it's been for sale recently

No, 'a' and 'b' - although I'm sure there's a way of getting even these back onto the roads...

No think the fire was limited to one side of the engine bay but the opportunity was taken to rebuild the car to pretty much new standard

How does one get into breaking insurance write-offs? Is it merely a case of offering the best price to the insurance co?

I think I'd be more upset if he said "we're going to repair it. Car will be at Bob's Under the Arches Repair Emporium on Monday"!

I really can't see £40k worth of salvage in that F40. Headlamp units, nearside and possibly offside front wheels, bonnet badge, possibly some bits under the bonnet. The bonnet is pretty burned just ahead of the passenger side door - I reckon making it into a useful part would cost some serious £££s. £40k... no chance.
