Hi All,

I am concidering buying a Maserati GranSport and need an idea of how everyone else gets on with them!!! What to look out for, how much to expect to pay running costs and any other top tips. My other choice is a 911 C4S but the Maser is just a bit more unusual and i like the idea of some italian flair!! it also seems fantastic value for money!!!

Any thoughts or comments much appreciated.

Cheers All
Paul

Gorgeous gorgeous car the Gransport. I was photographing one for Nuvolalondon a couple of weeks ago, beautiful car & sounds great too; maybe not as hardy as a 911 but much sexier IMHO. Give Nareman a call @ Nuvola, they might still have it....

I get on fine with mine, it's not so great around town but it's an uberGT on those long journeys. Pick one with the Auditorium 200 stereo upgrade and the journey will be even better.

Not had any problems with mine so far, had it 9 months now. Not really a fan of 911s, prefer something Italian and a bit rarer hence plumped for the GranSport (after owning 3200).

Make sure you get on with the CC box, that's my biggest gripe - I'd rather have a manual. CC box is excellent in Sport mode when you've dialed in the revs, but less satisfactory IMHO at other times. Personal choice though, I know some people who love it.

HTH.

Love them and considering buying a Gransport (just got rid of a 4200).

Depreciation was pretyy savage though.

Aer they planning on replacing the Gransport now the GranTourismo is here?

Thanks, this has been really helpfull and i guess it confirms what i had kind of expected, the maser is the one for the heart and the C4S is for the head!! Something i forgot to ask- does anyone have much idea how the maser would deal with 10-12k pa or even what the service shedule is. Just to put you in the picture i have a boxter S and it is excellent so i figure im comfortable with the porsche brand but as most posts state they are not exactly rare!! My boss also ran a Ferrari 360 and it was hardly any trouble, if the maser is as reliable as that i would be more than happy.

At the end of the day i figure i'm gonna have to drive both and go with my gut feeling!

Cheers

Pretty sure they don't build them anymore. If you go to the Maserati car configurator, you can only customise a Quattroporte or GranTurismo.

Had a 911 C4S now have a 4200 Spyder. Would have another Maserati wouldn't have another Porsche.

I'd be wary of buying a discontinued car for financial reasons.

However they are tons of fun and look the nuts.

I only had one problem with my 4200 (which is basically the same car) where the motor for the the electric seats had gone.

I se you have a similar spec to mine! When I was having the wheels re-furbed recently, I had them done in Gransport Gunmetal Grey look, I think it looks mean! See what you think!

Hi posted on the maserati forum too...

I just sold my 996 C2 and am getting an 06 GranSport LE on Friday - counting the minutes...

having test driven a few GS's - I'd say the interior ambience is leagues above a 911 even the new ones - they're just so "workmanlike" - sure the 911's got the leather but where's the flair?

However my 966 was knocking on 7 years when I sold it and it felt as if it had been cast from stone, not a squeek or rattle after almost 70k miles - the Maser definately feels a bit more "hand built".

To drive it feels bigger and in sport mode alot stiffer than even my 966 with a sports chassis - also the engine note and insane grunt if you really go for it is pretty special! Its a proper GT (with a slightly bigger boot- much bigger than a C4 - and a much better stereo - halleluiah on both counts, why are all porsche stereos so pants) - the 911 is more of a "sports car" IMHO...

Ultimately I dont do many miles and for me GS simply had a certain flair that a 911 simply cant match (oh and 911s are soooooooooooo common in London its actually embarassing) . Shall see how I get on - lets hope the "flair" doesnt get me down!!

it is really quite easy

go to dealer and find the right car
pick up phone to bank, arrange transfer/loan,
drive home in a MASERATI
smile at the thousands of 911's you see
sorted

911's common, really?? well i guess, i live in a sleepy norfolk market town and there is a 997 C4S,997 Turbo, and a 996 C4S in daily use even here!!!!!

I dont mind the purchase of the Maser but its the 15-20mpg and service/repairs im still trying to get my head round, added to that, the girlfriend said she prefers the 911 last night!!!!!!!!!(get another girlfriend i hear you all say but i have been with her 10 years and she's entitled to half the house!!) Still the maser would be the only one in my area!
