hi guys-gals,

once i have sold few of my cars am seriously thinking of buying a lambo gallardo under 80k..

there is a few on pistonheads for this sort of price 2004 models..

the question is how reliable and how expensive is it to maintain ??

the petrol and insurance is not an issue as i own my own high performance jap import company so am used to 8-15mpg cars and their associated costs...

am just waiting for my TVR to sell then i will be looking at the gallardo..

this purchase will come through hard work and savings so it will be my dream car and i want to make sure am not going to run into problems by buying something that is not reliable or seriously expensive to service..

or are these cars only for guys, gals that have plenty of money to fix at any time ?

if that is the case i will have the get the new nissan GTR but i really want the lambo..

is there any common problems with them, i hear a lot about clutches going on them ?

am looking at doing about 5,000 to 6,000 miles a year max.

look forward to your input..

thanks

Buy the nissan, a name synonymous with beautiful cars, looks, supercar heritage, fantastic engine notes and you don't have to drive all the way through those hideous foreign motorways and mountain passes to get to one of their factories, A19 to Sunderland is great.

If you find a good gallardo, it'll be a fantastic experience, but be prepared to sell an arm and possibly a leg should things go seriously wrong if you haven't budgeted for it smile

12 months in my Spyder came out around £7.5K in servicing, insurance, tyres, tax & fuel for 7k miles. But then there is depreciation to factor in.

On the plus side, the G's engine note has never been described in any reviews I've read as sounding like a washing machine of full spin cycle, get the lambo, you only live once....

only buy a pre 06 MY if you can afford unexpected bills!!!

you may get a solid well built car but you are just as likely to get a horror that eats clutches in as little as 1k and has an engine that could just give way. why do you think lambo do offer an extended warranty and have 2yrs warranty from new?!?! save up or stretch yourself to 06 MY.

p.s Not all early cars are bad, but some just are regardless of previous service history and the warranties never cover what you expect.

oops, should read 'don't' not 'do'.

in terms of noice it does tingle the spine in ways a ferrari with a factory exhaust could only dream of.

take the plunge and you'll enjoy every minute of it!!!

JV79 - I see you are in the same area as me. I am saving towards a G too with a view to seeing how the business is going in the next 9-12 months. Have you done any research into the practicality of owning a Lambo in our region? By that I mean are their any specialists within a gazillion miles? Obviously the nearest official Lambo dealer is Edinburgh, with Manchester being another option, but that seems like a long hike to get a rattle in the seatbelt looked at, you know?

As an aside, GrayPaul Ferrari in Nottingham have a silver G in with glass engine cover and titanium wheels - 8700 miles for £82k. My wife had to give me 'that look' to stop me blowing my plans and going for it right there! Ha ha.
