All,

I am looking to buy a Jalpa and thought this might be a good place to ask for leads. I have seen 2 cars advertised, one on the LCUK website and I can't get hold of the chap but have done an HPI on that registration and it said it had been written off at some time so not so keen on that one. The other is 350 miles away and was hoping to find something closer before traveling although that car looks nice. Both the above cars are circa 15K and there is a third on Pistonheads for 28k but that is too much for me. Soooooo, anyone know of others that might be on the market?

I take it the 350 mile away car is the one with TopGear? As mentioned, that's an honest motor for the asking price and no, Carlo pays me exactly £0 for saying that!

There aren't that many around, as you know... if you've joined the Club then you're in the best place to find one in the UK by far... you could even place an advert on the Club website asking to buy one... now there's a thought, eh???

regards

dp - but then, you knew it was me!

i looked at the one on the top gear site, i was interested in it but never followed up on it to be honest, i was going to but the wife had other ideas about cars at the time, i do like the jalpas or "baby countachs" as they are also known.

the top gear one looks in great condition, if your stuck on whats what why not ask a jalpa owner from the lcuk club to look it over with you im sure someone will help or have it checked over independently. but im sure as the others have said top gear sales wont mess you around

Thanks guys,

D, I will post a wanted on the LCUK site once it comes to terms with me logging in, keeps telling me account pending.

Big si,
Nice to hear you thought it was as good as it looks, just the distance that is delaying me.

I spoke to a chap with a blue one at Autoitalia today and he was complimentary about Top Gear Cars too which gives me confidence and encourages me to travel up. Still would be nice to have one handed on a plate though:-)

I can also vouch for the silver/burgundy car at top-gear. I saw it last week, and it appears in good condition. However, it has been in the showroom for some time, so it will require careful looking-over before you commit.

Carlo is a straight guy - you should have no qualms about dealing with him

Paul, DS,

Wow, not often you read such glowing reports about a dealer from so many. Thanks to both for your comments and advice.
I will look into the best ways of traveling up as it seems like a good car.
Anyone got further comments on the sodium valves, I was advised the engine should be warmed through but didn't ask the reason for this. How does this prolong their life and why are they sodium filled? It also seems these get replaced so I take it we are talking time bomb if this has not been done or am I gtetting the wrong end of the stick?

Hi there,
I think the sodium valve issue is a bit of a storm in a teacup...ask Ant or David for the lowdown. They couldn't have been more helpful in my Jalpa purchasing choice...in fact like that bloke who enjoyed his razor so much he bought the company...I bought Ant's Jalpa. Couldn't be happier.Look forward to meeting you at an event.Cheers,Huw.

You are both right, I do NEED one:-). Does anyone know if there is a friendly owner around my way that I could have a look at there car? I am just outside Watford but of course don't expect one on my doorstep, just the south of England would be nice.
I suspected the sodium valve issue was not that great but good to hear peoples thoughts.
Where will the next meet be?
Now, come on where are all those Jalpa's hiding?

Get him a chair, his arms aren't broken:-).
When you do go, can you have a good look at the Japla and take some pics?
Things are looking up.

That would of been me. Hello again wavey

Looking on Classic Driver, there are more Countaches for sale than Jalpas. If you really don't like Carlo's car there are three cars on the Mainland for sale. Alas you're going to have to wait for the pound/euro to change.

Hi, and thanks for the chat yesterday it WAS great to see a Jalpa and get to look over it. I was pleased that having not seen one for so many years, I hadn't let my imagination run away and then disappointed having built it up in my mind.smile
i had seen the cars in mainland Europe advertised on the Swiss site but don,t want LHD and as you say the exchange rate is poor.

a bit O/T but I was in to see Carlo on Saturday to discuss getting my maser looked at ahead of a grand Euro trip bounce and took my 13 year old along.....once he'd put his tongue back in his mouth and picked his jaw off the floor he was in seventh heaven. Cheers Carlo for letting him have a seat in the Murci...

as we were driving home I asked him which was his favourite.....after a few minutes he said he couldn't chose one but could he have a couplelaugh....aside from a rather nice Murci he plumped for the Jalpa which both suprised and impressed me!

I'll be up at Carlo's for the Knockhill weekend and get some pictures for you, assuming you don't want more than the 400+ still left on the big chip in my camera...

I know what - I'll try to take a picture that makes the Jalpa look bad! I've never been able to take a picture that makes a Jalpa look bad (or any Lamborghini come to that) but I can try and you could base your opinion of the car on that, a bit, maybe, kind-of?

The worst thing about Dougie breaking his leg will be if he's not able to keep up with his Springtime extra-job... Apparently, he was getting very, very good at shooting starlings out of the sky before they get a chance to crap-bomb any Lamborghinis temporarily parked outside for an hour or so...

Dougie pays me £0 for saying this, but he's obviously a good shot! Comparing 2005's birdlime lumps versus 2006's no-such-thing, you'd have to say he's quite an efficient airborne crap-bomber destroyer!

I'd just washed the scuro blue Diablo VT that Al 7ee went on to own in May 2005.

After washing, it was thoroughly chamois'd off, front-to-back and as I walked back to the front of the car, I was just in time to see a mound of bird dung of near-Himalayan size land on the bonnet...

...which was repeated at the back after the first mound was swilled away...

That sort of thing never happened in '06 or last year but what are the chances of 2008 being the year of The Revenge of The Starlings if Dougie can't shoot them down??????

Actually, do you think they might have plotted to make Dougie break his leg?

Thanks for the picture offer and yes the worst aspects of the car would be good. As above i will have a look at the Uracco tomorrow and let you know what I think.
