£600 for a Maserati inspection?
Discussion
Just about to buy a 3200 GT and I want to get it inspected by a local specialist to make sure I am not buying a shed. Just got quoted £600 to get the car checked over. The check does sound very comprehensive and the price isn’t a deal breaker given the price of the car and what it could save you but I just want to check that the price seems right.
To me it seems very high compared to the non- specialist check ups and you wouldn't want to do too many before you actually purchased a car. Does this seem a fair price compared to what other people had paid?
Thanks

Speak to Emblem, spoke to them today about inspecting a 4200 and they quoted approx £300, and these guys are often recommended by owners:-

Ben27 - It was the guys you recommended on my other post. They are well placed as they are just down the road from the dealer but £600 did blow my socks off a bit. Mihgt just have to pay it though because I can't see the dealer shipping the car off to dorset just to I can have a once over on it.
Does anyone know of a mobile car inspection service who might know what they are doing?

Just keep in mind that after you have parted with your £600, they may have found £'s worth of problems with the car and then you are back to square one if it costs too much to rectify. Would you then fork out another £600 again??
I have given OPC's £200 x 3 doing 111point checks on 911's that all failed the pre-inspection checks. Ironically i finally bought a 996C4S without getting it checked as it had a warranty so i risked it. Cars been perfect since day one.

£600 is mad money for an inspection. Have they told you what they are going to do for all that cash?
I would say that not all, but most faults with a 3200GT could be detected via a few simple checks and a decent test drive or two.
I doubt the inspector is going to get his hands so dirty as to check for big ticket problems such as end float.
If the car looks in decent nick and has all the stamps, why not agree a price based on nothing untoward being found after purchase or on the next service? Indeed, you could have a service performed for £600, and that is essentially an inspection!
Another possibility is to reveal the reg on maseratiforum and see if the car is familiar to any of the maser owners on there through ex-ownership, meets, etc.
