Fighting Torque 2008 invitation
Discussion
For those who dont know, Fighting Torque 2008 will be run at Woodbridge on August 10th.
The organisers hope the members in this forum will lend their patronage, as we had a great event last year that was only lacking in that we had no Ferraris and only two Lambos present.
This event is open to all supercars and their owners, and you are guaranteed a great day out which is professionally run and insured through Javalin trackdays.
There is also a thread in the events section that can provide more general information.
We hope that after the sucess of last years event more owners from this forum would enter for the 2008 event, and applications may be made within the coming weeks on the Fighting Torque website.
www.fightingtorque.org
If anyone with an Enzo, Bugatti, SLR, Zonda or similar may be interested in attending, we would love to invite you for a vip day and a complimentary entry.
I must stress that there is absolutely NO obligation to thrash your cars. Each run is strictly down to what each owner feels comfortable with, and there will be opportunity in the PM to choose from your fellow competitors who you would like to run against (this made for the most interesting of matches last year).
Lat year, most entrants achieved 6 - 8 runs, but its entirely up to yourselves how many runs you wish to take part in during the day.
The run will be over 1 mile with timed splits at 1/4, 1/2 3/4 and a mile. Owners rarely get the chance to explore just how good these cars really are at higher speeds, so now is your chance.
There will likely be a dvd made of the event (to be confirmed), and a top motoring journalist will be attending with something rather special to run against you all.
He is also covering the event for one of the top monthly magazines, and your very own Pistonheads editorial staff will feature an article and video for Pistonheads as they are also running a car on the day.
The sponsors should be announced shortly, and their involvement will have a heavy motorsport flavour to add to the event which we will detail in depth both on the fightingtorque website, and Pistonheads over the coming weeks.
The autocars video of last years event by Chriss Harris can be seen on the website www.fightingtorque.org or www.autocar.co.uk
If anyone would like more information please contact myself on 01772 619527 or 07968 316963 or Longbow on PH.
Regards
Jonathan Kay

Registration on the Fighting Torque website is open as from Wednesday 18th June 2008.
If you click this link http://www.fightingtorque.org/supercar/ you will find a box on the left hand side to register.
The cost will be £125, which is significantly cheaper than either a track day , or other alternate events.
The sponsors are Toyo Tyres, and there should be a number of promotional free items provided for the entrants on the day.
Last year these included caps,Toyo jackets, and other motorsport clothing.
There will also be a secondary event which will incorporate a slalom course against the clock, (last year all entrants had free entry to this, and details for this year will be on the FT website) so it should be a great day out.

Maybe, just maybe there were no Ferraris in attendance because some might have beleved the event was yet another, see how good your car is against a Ferrari
Last year it was predominantly TVR biased by design.
This year it is a generic event, with no bias or favouritism to any marque.
Now I do think some of the banter on PH last year was a little purile, and so we have endevoured to ensure that the type of entries we are looking for reflect the broad nature of performance cars from the latest models, to the classics of different eras.
No one make will dominate the list, which is why applications will be ratified prior to acceptance for entry, and we want a good cross section of italian cars in the mix.
Similar cars will be matched up in the morning, and in the PM you are free to race whoever you wish.
This is not a peeing contest, its a genuine fun day out for all to see how good their cars are.
If people view it differently, then really thats their own pre-conceived ideas getting in the way of what the day is all about.
We had two Lambo owners last year who had a wail of a time racing each other, (and other cars,). It was a wonderful sight to see, and all the spectators and other drivers were glad to be there to see it happen.
If you ask those who attended last year, all thought it was a fantastic day out, and better than anticipated.
I came 34th out of 92, yet I cant wait for this years event , so it really is all down to the individual as to how they want to view it.
Standard cars will run against standard cars, anything thats not completely standard must run against something similar.
You will not be matched against some supercharged skyline. It just wont happen.
So for example Lambo vs Ferrari is a natural match, and what most people would like to see.
We will also take into account the cars you would most like to run against once the list is closed for applications.
I hope this clarifies matters, but please do post any questions you have because we do want to be clear that all issues will be answered to your satisfaction, and I hope you guys will consider coming along.

Rejected ... what did you enter? - certainly wasnt a Lambo
I just checked, and no one with your name registered.
We have one Maserati, and thats it.
A Ferrari, Lamborghini etc would not be rejected - so what name did you use, and what was the car?

Theres two distinct categories
Standard and modified. you will run against a similar vehicle (standard races standard , modified races modified etc).
In the PM you can run against who you wish.
There is also likely to be a prize of some description for the fastest 1/4 mile time set by a standard car.
Given the number of standard cars applying was quite low, we have no choice but to allow in more of those enthusiastic owners who want to bring their cars along with a little more oomph.

Re the modified cars, we have had no takers of any Italian or exotic performance cars,(apart from the Porsches) so we really dont have the luxury to be overly selective at this point.
Places are still available, and the event is being professionally filmed for web and a screener produced for interested TV companies.

I think that was a Gallardo SL, but after sending the acceptance E mail we heard nothing as far as I know.
As I said, interest in the forum seems limited, so we have to open it to those who are proactive.
The owners on here would deffinately be our first choice, and we would happily fill the event up with Lambo Ferrari & other exotics , but it seems that the response from PH was poor.
On a different note, I believe your Aston has now become a Gallardo!(V nice)
I know theres still time, and hopefully we may get a couple more people tempted.

Not a single taker from this whole section?
There must be one hell of a parked-up static display at a stately home somewhere...
'Exotics'?
Pah!
Bunch of pussies more like...

...blatant goading I know - but I (and many others!) would love the chance to see one or more Italian thoroughbreds being used in anger for a change...
