Diablo or 360 Ferrari?
Discussion
Hi Guys.
I am new to the site, but thought you could possibly give me some good tips.
Always wanted either a Lamborghini Diablo or a Ferrari 360 Modena or Spider as a weekend "feel good" car.
I have now got £60k in my piggy bank and want advice on which is the better car.
The car will be used only on sunny weekends and probably at least one continental trip per annum.
Advice on costs, best models, what to avoid etc. would be gratefully received.

Very different cars really. I haven't driven a 360 but used to own a 355 and have owned a couple of Diablos. The 360 will be more usable and better suited to narrow B roads in this country. Will be easier to drive with lighter major controls. Will need cambelts every couple of years which the Diablo won't. Many more of these on the road than Diablos. Build quality better.I am new to the site, but thought you could possibly give me some good tips.

The Diablo is much more of an 'event' IMO. Much more low down torque and a better noise from the V12 (I personally am not a fan of the 360 high pitched scream bit many are). It will attract much more interest from other road users - I know from experience!
Running costs not hugely different if you get a good example of both - check out Verdi website for servicing costs to give you an idea.
If it was me I would get a Diablo but then I'm more of a Lamborghini fan than Ferrari.
If you get a Diablo get as late a model as you can - ideally an SV as a better drive and build quality was better.
Good luck
Craig

Silly question. Diablo! The SV is an amazing car to drive, as already suggested. A roadster also makes you feel great and less claustraphobic. 60K is a bit tight to spend for either, but possible.
Pete
there is a yellow SV on Autotrader for £55k - looks like a bargain!Pete
Not meaning to put a damper on Diablos but it will be substantially more expensive to run. An example is that a clutch is in the thousands on the Diablo rather than the hundreds on the 360. Fuel will be significantly more on the Diablo. Reliability of Diablo is not as good as the 360. Diablo's are large and awkward on country roads. IMO Diablos also look a litle dated (but that is entirely personal). I thought about buying a Diablo earlier in the year but having done some research with some specialists I just didnt like what I heard.
360 would be my choice (in fact I am looking to buy one so probably a bit biased). I sold a 355 spider which was my dream car, but having driven a 360 the improvement in feel and drive is immense (albeit the 355 IMO is a better looking car).
If you were thinking of a gallardo then it would be a much harder decision (also more money).

It is sold.
Just checked your profile Pete. You have bought that SV haven't you?
A friend of mine rang up a couple of days ago about it and the seller said that he sold it for less than £40k because it was needing a packet spending on it. Full service, clutch, respray etc. Sour grapes I reckon.
Sounds like you have got the World's cheapest Diablo SV.
Have read your thread about the SE30.
Are you collecting Diablos then?
If so, you are a lucky guy.
How about some nice photos for us all to get jealous about.
The car is A1 except for some paint needed. Interior is excellent. Drives like a dream. So quick!
Yes I am collecting them (anmd after more) SE30 next. Don't believe everything you hear when it comes to money. Does need a service.
Never underestimate how much it costs to make a good diablo perfect. Spent 30K on roadster since Oct and it was a beautiful car when I got it.
Posting pics in just a mo.

360 will be the usable car, the Diablo will be everything you ever dreamed of having in a supercar
I love mine to death
Mine is a 1st Gen 2WD, but with an SV Engine, box, clutch and dash
Best of both worlds, and the best one I could find at the time
Would only sell it to get a Diablo Roadster
Focus on the mechanics, paint is cheap

SimonSays, just seen your Diablo on your profile page.

What a stunning car.
Looks best in red.
What expenses have you incurred with it, and how long have you had her?

not from my experience - the 355 I had had loads more problems than either of my Diablosit was also very thirsty (5 valves per cylinder saw to that) and will needs cambelt changes which a Diablo doesn't
granted a Diablo clutch is more but these last for a good while if you drive them correctly

Although a 355 is not a 360 or anywhere in the same region of reliability and build quality - the 360 was a revolution for ferrari in these aspects.it was also very thirsty (5 valves per cylinder saw to that) and will needs cambelt changes which a Diablo doesn't

when I had my 355 I took it to well known specialist QV in Ascot - they scared the hell out of me when they explained that the 355/360 engines were over-stressed and had a number of engines in the workshop that had gone bang to prove it. They said the last of the reliable V8s was in the 348

yes interesting as my local official dealer say the opposite - that the drivetrain in the 360 has caused them significantly less grief than any model beforehand - partly because its easier/cheaper to maintain so they get less failures as people push the belt replacement way beyond recognised guidelinesGreigM said:
