But basically myself and a friend are driving to Italy then onto Monaco, after a ring trip.

Fairly flexible where we stay but we like the look of Lake Garda and are definitly spending a day around Maranello doing the obvious factories..

It would be nice to spent a night near Monaco too.

Any recommendations would be excellent, theres just so many places to think about staying.

Cheers Guys

I wouldn't bother with Modena its a concrete jungle though it has some fab restaurants. Bologna in the opposite direction is a much better bet - far prettier and plenty of decent hotels. Monaco I'd stay at the Columbus, its good value and Supercar friendly. Can't help you with Lake Garda though, haven't been.

I stayed in the hotel de paris last year ( v special occsion SWMBO 30th) for 2 nights while on a driving trip in France. sense of occaion driving up to it is brilliant. marred somewhat by my carrier bag of dirty pants falling out of the boot and landing at the feet of the valetwhen I opened it....oops, must pack better!

if thats not up your street then the fairmont, it has a good casino downstairs as well.

have fun

yes Just get a sea view room though.
There's something ever so slightly amusing to me about booking into a posh hotel in one of the most expensive places on earth and having a view out over the sea! You could be anywhere!! I think I'd want a view over Monaco's distinctive harbour to remind me as to precisely where I was and what I'd forked-out all that money for!

I recently honeymooned in Malcesine on Lake Garda. It's towards the top end, and has a cable car up the mountain, as well as the usual shops/cafes and a castle. We stayed in the Hotel Maximillian which has recently been updated in a contemporary style, and the food was excellent - 5 courses per night!

I stayed at the Fairmount a couple of weeks ago for the Classic GP. It's a fantastic hotel with underground parking. It overlooks the hairpin, as someone mentioned, and is over the tunnel.
Best to eat out in the evening, as the hotel restaurant looked a bit soul-less.

Seconded. Locanda San Vigilio (near Garda) also very nice. I'm at lake Garda every other weekend and would highly reccomend the area around Gardone (some of the nicest restaurants & clubs, plus less tourists than in the North or South-East).
Let me know if you need more info!

Regards,
Felix

Just got back from Monaco GP; Monte Carlo Beach Hotel was great. It has the 'Sea Lounge' - which is v trendy beach club. Great for birds (you can also get in without having to stay at hotel, if you book lunch). 'Sass cafe' also a great place for dinner.

Ian, second vote for hotel columbus, the suites are great and staff are spot on, really chilled out place, though I read somewhere that Coulthard has now sold out of it following a few million euros going missing from the books?

Whilst you are there, drive up to La Turbie & take the road to the monte carlo golf club, some great open hairpins and a stunning view near the top smile

Give them a ring Ian, really helpful staff, might be lucky and get a room. If you want to avoid monaco prices, stay on the seafront in Menton, perfectly reasonable hotels at realistic prices smile

Answer to next question I'm guessing is up to Sospel on to the Col du Turini, as well as up to La turbie/golf club for the view and the roads around there are pretty quiet on an evening too

Don't forget to take ID to the casino smile

When are you going to Garda Brommers? If you are going to the same place as me, you will be at Como.
But yes, I can't wait!
