How noisey is my 355
Discussion
I'm thinking of doing the PH track day at Brands in a few weeks and I've just noticed they have a 102db noise limit.
My 355 has level 1 Tubi sounds nice to me but I dont want to get there and then be chucked out for being too noisey.
Does any one know what my car is likely to make noise wise?
Does any one know the checking proceedure as I do have a noise meter at work.
Many thanks Ken

3/4 revs - so if yours redlines at 8500, rev at 6300-6400 with the noise meter at one metre from the exhaust at 45% above it.
Trick is, IF there is only one person doing the testing:
"what does it redline at mate"
"8000"
"gives us 6000 then will you"
Then give them 5000.
Obviously this does not work if they have a partner watching your rev counter.

Thanks for the reply. This test is the same as MSA competition test and I have wriggled in the way you describe befor
.
We have a noise meter at work so I'll have a go with that now using the proceedure you describe. It going to cost me a bit one way and another so I want to have a good feeling that it will be OK.
If they do flyby testing then who knows. She does sound sweet at full chat.

Nobody told me that at the pub the other week.... I could have been above the 100 mark then? Trick is, IF there is only one person doing the testing:

Our test at Lunch time today gave me
5000 RPM (very difficult to hold steady) 98db
6000 RPM (easyer to hold for some reason) 100 db
measurement taken at .5 meter above ground and .5 meter behind car and in the middle of the twin exhaustes as per notes on MSV site rules and regs. I was also in a reasonably open (more open than BH pits) area when this was carried out.
I tried one drive by test but the meter even on its fast setting failed to respond with anything meaningfull.
I do know that any test we do holds no weight with BH. Its what their meter says in their conditions.
Never the less it doesnt look too bad .

Is that with a standard or sports exhaust?5000 RPM (very difficult to hold steady) 98db

Got a Tubi without CATs on my 355, and got rejected at Castle Coombe trackday last year for being too loud. They did the 2 man rule with incar observer - got tested at 5,000 rpm, and recorded 108db - days limit was 100db.... so wasted day. (nice evening before though at the Castle pub in Castle Coombe so not a wasted nite!)
Note, if you are on the limit, you can get "add-ons" to stick on the end of the pipes with something like Jubilee clips, ruins the looks but retrospectively advised by Karl Verdi's that they won't build much back pressure and blow yer boxes, and they will take it down for the day by about 8-10db, and he can hire them out for I think it was £100/day
