348 owners won't be too happy !!!!!!!!!
'Ferrari F355 was born out of the 348, a massive underachiever by Prancing Horse standards. It was deeply flawed and had been given a kicking by a new breed of supremely competent supercars like the Honda NSX.'
'If Ferrari was going to turn this car into a hero it needed nothing short of a miracle. Luckily this came in part in the form of the highest-revving supercar engine in production, a 40-valve, 3.5-litre version of the 348’s venerable V8.'

Great cars having had one or two myself.....'Ferrari F355 was born out of the 348, a massive underachiever by Prancing Horse standards. It was deeply flawed and had been given a kicking by a new breed of supremely competent supercars like the Honda NSX.'

when I had my 348GTS I took a few doubting Thomas's out for a spin, they never failed to be impressed. ok, it was a step up from the standard ts/tb and in some ways part way to a 355 but all the same, the 348 is a lovely car, by even modern standards its quick, sounds great, handles well, ok so looks/styling are a taste thing but its hardly inoffensive. I think they are staring to be something of a bargain. It does annoy me when people slate them.

You cannot argue that the 355 was an immensely superior car
In what way?Performance >> Yes, it has between 55 and 75 bhp more than a 348, but only has 33bhp more than my 348.
Assuming you can find a 355 with 375bhp that is. I'm still waiting for someone to post up dyno figures of one showing the full ponies because all the people I've talked to who have had it dyno'd have been less.
The 348 & 355 have the same brakes. So braking performance is the same.
The 355 needs to be revved, whilst the 348 has better low down torque and is a revvier engine.
The 355 has a 6 speed gearbox compared to the 5 speed on a 348. Although the latter has a dogleg first which I find very useful. However, the 355 gearbox is stronger han the 348 one and less likely to break.
Handling >> A "properly set" up 348 is a nice handling machine. They regularly take part and win the Ferrari Hill Climbing Championships. Don't reacall a 355 winning recently, although i stand to be corrected.
Now lets look at the problematic issues that each of the models has.
The 348's archilles heel is it's gearbox. They can break and are expensive to fix. Although Karl Verdi has told me that the later versions have a much stronger one. Other issues are electrical issues, but these are also found on the 355 as they share much of the electrcs. The 355 is after all a modified 348.
In comparison, the 355 has sufefred with manifolds going bad, valve guide probelms, engine going band and some cars catching fire. he 348... has non of these probelms. According to many specialists I've talked to, the 348 engine is bullet proof. It's very rare for it to need a rebuild. QV London one of the best known Ferrari specilialist have never rebuilt one, but ahve lost count of the number off 355's they've had to rebuild.
So...is the 355 an immensley superior car. No, but it should be a better car in the same way that a 328 is better than a 308 and a 430 is better than a 360. Does this make the 348 a bad car? No.

I have also seen some dyno read outs on various forums like Fchat of crank reading of between 310-330 hp on 355s. Which should give the correct reading at the wheels. But maybe you choose to over look these to try and reinforce your arguments.
As great as the 348 may be in a few eyes, the motoring media and car journalist seem to think the standard 355 is light years ahead of a standard 348. Side by side with both cars standard the power of the 355 will leave the 348 wanting.
Bet Si hasn't been called "lad" for a fair few years
I think most level headed people will agree that the 55 is more advanced and more powerful than the 48. Most of the preference for the 48 is down to its more raw nature and the subjective 80s styling.
And I so nearly bought a pair of espadrils at Arnage SuperU on Friday

Your a bit of a dreamer lad regarding the power of your car;) I have read about your car and you think that changing exhausts, brakes and striping your car will up the hp significantly

You really need to get your facts right before you post anything.
