Ok, maybe a slightly controversial post here.

This is up in the classifieds.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/525778.htm

Would you buy buy what is essentially an ex fleet/hire car.

Upside - well maintained regardless of costs buy exceptionally well renowned owners

Downside - you probably know thats it been thrahed buy a few of its discerning hirers.

Just interested in the views of the general FML populace.

Personaly no, but then about 100 people will say I'm wrong and a garage queen is a worse buy.

If it's priced accordingly and has been maintained properly then i'd definitely consider it.

You as well, huh.wink

Got to be worth a cheeky offer, hasn't it? biggrin

Get it at the right price and you won't worry if a big bill appears/resale value is diminished; keep it long enough and memories of it's past will fade anyway... smile

What? As opposed to being thrapped by just the one owner smile

And I'm not sure that the 13k miler is particularly better at £23k more.

Go on Justin, at least it will make following you down the N138 more interesting biggrin

Not sure how you work this out, I know which one I'd rather go for and the extra 23k would be worth it just not to have the stigma of the hire car attached to it.

Justin,

i think the answer is in how you feel about it in your own mind.

if you're thinking...'it's a cheap (relatively speaking) car, i'm going to really enjoy it'

then buy it.

if you're likely to be thinking ' it's an ex hire car, i'm never going to be able to shift it'

then don't

the fact is you're probably having the same conversation with yourself that many others have already had, and ..probably more importantly someone who comes to buy your car in the future.

Easy, a lot of that premium is also due to the low mileage. Justin drives his cars, so that low mileage would very soon become what some may regard as a high mileage.

Agree though, if it's a keeper for a few years, no problem ... but if you may want to move it on afetr a year the P1 ownership may have a detrimental effect.

The cars are certainly better how being driven though yes

love the interiors with contrasting bright leather - so much more Lambo than sombre all black.

Techie question - the two are slightly different as the older car has more yellow panels (eg bottom of dash), was this a change of spec between the years of manufacture, different options or could the buyer define bespoke colours?

A point was made a while back at SCS...

Someone was offering either a Murci or LP640 for red-letter-day type events.

When asked if he was worried aobut Joe-Numpty ttting the car his response was: No, because nearly every single one of the punters was so intimidated by the car and afraid of ttting it that they would generally dirve really conservatively!

However, being a Car-Club car, I suspect their clientele are a little more used to high performance cars and more likley to want to welly it!

You pays your money and you takes your choice.

My gut feeling is that as long as it's well documented (which I suspect it will be) and has been well serviced and yuo get it inspected, then it is probably as good a buy as any and as suggested above - you might even be able ot take the p155 a bit with your offer as they MUST be aware tehat being ex-p1 makes it potentially less desirable to the wary customer?

Options or owner spec

Don't see the issue really, the owner of a Murci is hardly going to be driving it like a pensioner anyway, is he? Would imagine a car with similar miles that's not a hire car will have been just as thrashed - this also has the bonus of not having been tracked.
