Have you seen this story on the BBC website?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7535149.stm

Is this really worthy of a front page UK story?

Rediculous.

I had a nice email from a chap in Germany this morning, as follows (not amended by me for his spollink orrurs)

Dear Mr. Price,

I was really shocked when I read an article quoting you that it is the peronal decision of an car owner to fly his car around the wold just to do an oil service.

ItŽs definitely NOT !

Personal freedom of one individual ends where freedom or health of others is violated.
You should have learned that already at school. Excessive waste of energy is rather a crime than a personal decison.

The consequences of wasting energy in such a ingnorant way are just starting to become visible.

Go on with such statements and you will seriously damage the reputation of the Lamborghini brand and its owners. You did no favour to your clients.

Regards, ***** Burke

My reply was short and to the point... it involved demanding an apology which has yet to come (see posting time for this...)

I even managed not to rib his surname, tho' I could have done...

Well done David about the comment, I totally agree.. Most people have no idea where our energy is

spent.

Producing electricity for us all is the one largest pollutant in the UK. Since we all use it,

then in this pathetic world of do gooders we are all at fault.

What people do with their money is down to them. I am also sure that they keep many people employed ,

far more than us Joe public.

Different angle on the polution debate............. I raise a few £1000 pa by auctioning rides in my Diablo at various charitable functions...... I'm polluting the planet by doing so should I stop ??
I do have the car serviced by Mr Pullen (10 miles from home) though.

Jealousy and the thin end of the ongoing class war. Would you expect any different reporting of this (non-) story?

Fuel prices already subsume the requirement for sustainability and efficiency. Thus, he was very kindly, contributing more than most to the research fund.

yeh, but. yeh, but - it's the way you have your Diablo delivered those 10 miles in a few large parts using a regiment of mechanics and a squadron of Lancaster bombers which you have maintained in Singapore and then flown to the UK just for that one job every year...

The Excession is an ace book by Iain M. Banks - sci-fi that's not too 'techy' but with a machine that reaches 247,000 times the speed of light at one point just to get somewhere else... so, a bit like R666LAM on an average day out then...

It's not so much the cost of getting it to God and back for the service.. It's the seven hours it takes to clean and polish the damn thing..if any of that acid rain stuff drops on it !!

Thankfully in this sanctified forum on PH we all seem to see climate change as BS and another excuse for a stealth tax. It's frightening that the greater majority in the UK actually believe this crap. Crime is by far then most important issue. Excluding speeding offences how do you raise revenue from it. Not worth bothering then.

It's an interesting story but insignificant, no matter what you believe about carbon emissions. This is one eccentric guy with one car. If there were a hundred like him, and there aren't, it would still be insignificant. The inconvenient truth is that it's the POOR, of which there are many, clogging up the air with cheap flights to Malaga, not the RICH, of which there are very few who are causing the problem (if you believe there is one). But that doesn't sell papers to Sun readers.

agreed. besides, how do they know this guy doesn't contibute £10BN a year offsetting his "carbon crater". The media have a lot to answer for in terms of stirring sh!t amongst the daily-mail-reading lemmings. Religion and journalists are the two biggest sources of hatred in the world - and neither of them are of any use to the human race.

when he sent you that email he obvoisly hard to turn on his computer and thus using energy...and wasted even more energy by typing a pointless email that was bound to get him slated. so in turn he has caused us all to type a reply and waste even more of this so called precious energy...i mean...we could have used this time to look at naked ladies and the likes.....

Well actually the biggest issue is population growth. This guy is not going to cause as much damage as a couple knocking out several children, who in turn knock out several more.

Funny how we tax the crap out of someone who drives a car which contributes a minute amount more to our CO2 output. But we reward people for every child they knockout, which will have a huge impact on our CO2 output.
