355 Insurance

My fella is soon to be the proud owner of a 355........not as simple as it sounds.

He is Australian and moving here in a few weeks. We need to get the thing insured. I could take out insurance (i'm from the UK and have 6yrs no claims) and put him as a named driver. Can he be a named driver if he holds an International (aussie) licence? Any advice as to who best to insure with?

Would he be able to get insurance in his name if he only holds his Aussie licence?
I know he could swap his licence for a UK one, but he's keen to keep hold of the Aussie one and take a UK test.

All a bit complex, any help/advice is gratefully recieved!
(there'll be a later post to see if anyone knows about secure storage to come......!)
