That Roadster looks and sounds to be basically OK... bit scabby on the paint, odd looking interior (not that you can see much in the (bad) photo's) and quite leggy in UK terms at least.

The seller doesn't mention import duties that may well apply if it was never previously registered in the EU.

These days the ever-grasping UK 'requires' either 17.5% VAT on the purchase price (bad enough...) or possibly 17.5% of the original sale price (gee-zuz...) and that all depends on who's in control of the rubber stamp that day... (eg. a non-European registered Countach attracted 4% VAT one day in 2006, a slightly later car imported thru' similar route but just a few weeks later and got clobbered for 17.5%. The gits.)

That Roadster might be a happier car to buy and have sorted out ready for 2009... Diablo Roadsters look really unusual and are a ruddy big hoot to drive!

The thread says that the car is already in the UK.
Does that mean that there is nothing in the way of taxes to pay?
Seems very cheap to me.

If that's the case, that is one seriously cheap car.

Put into context, the seller has admitted that the car needs tidying and some interior leather work.
Add to the £40k, the price of a partial retrim and paint job plus the essential rear spoiler and the price could well hit over £50k, which is only a few grand shy of what John (jdwcd) sold his mint blue Roadster for a few months ago. And that was a right hooker!
I know it is nice to have a bit of wind in the hair motoring occasionally, but at the cost of the looks, not for me.
To me the Roadster has always been the ugly duckling of the Diablo range.
Even so, they do look very dramatic in the flesh, especially the polychromatic one that is owned by a PHer.

That car is quite spectacular. Owned by PHer 13TH, in case anyone doesn't know.

If it needs a re-trim and paint and only a few mechanical/electrical faults the price to sort this car will sore over 50K. By the way Jon's car went for more than "a few K over 50K". Also that was to a dealer (not a private sale price) who has the price at nearly 70K. (jon sold it needing a service etc too.)

Eitherway it's a cheap car if you are happy to compromise with a left hooker. Think it a bit mis-leading to suggest that 53K will get him a good right hand drive car without a very long wait and certain circumstances.

Regarding the ugly duckling, I disagree as with the roof off it is very sleek, but I do agree that some of the original smooth lines are lost of the coupe which is a shame. However hardly a car exists that doesn't lose it's lines to some extent (usually as the rear window treatment on many coupes gives a car a sleek profile such as the DB9 etc). Having best of both worlds, a coupe and a roadster, it's a real hoot to drive an open top diablo and recommend it. The roof is also quite practical and quick to fix/remove,

By the way scuro blue was the colour of both Jon's roadster and 13th (Rod and Susie) before the photochromatic conversion. The paint job on rod's car was about 12K and his re-trim about 10K, so bare that in mind if you intend to re-colour it fully. My car looked mint from 5 feet way when I bought it, but has swallowed up 35K to get it back to new condition. It also only takes a small mechanical problem/clutch/oil leak to swallow up 5K instantly. Beacuse the roadster has all the toys on it such as suspension lift, there is more to go wrong. For 40K it's worth buying and enjoying it I reckon.

oh yeah, I can't even see the thing as the link won't work.

Of course, it's horses (BULLS!!!) for courses... everyone is entitled to their own opinion... etc etc etc

The Diablo Roadster has a certain something about it that's just inyerface "it look like this because it just bloody well does- wotcha gonna do 'bout it?" which really works for me... I think they look best (and more individual) with the roof ON, btw... and in dark colours - so, Scuro blue then - never seen a black Roadster... as yet!

The real catcher would be to get a later spec 530bhp engine fitted, perhaps, but to ALWAYS stick with original Roadster wheels and none of that blingy-shiny stuff... and some brick wall effect Brembos... and an exhaust that could double as a WMD for some small country one day... and some carbon fiber bits inside the cabin... and.. and... and...

agreed.

It only looks different as the rear portion of the car and air ducts were lowered to accomodate the roof when off the car. I love the roadster as it has the SE (shark gill) type skirts, SE spec rear spoiler (except the adjustable rear edge section) deep rear bumber (SE spec again) and it's own unique front spoiler.

There is a black roadster (Mike Pullen offered it to me a while ago) I believe it was Prince Nazeem's. Also had a black interior. Was after 65K for it I believe.

As far as I know only one 530BHP right hand roadster exists (the SV engine) and is in the only surviving SV roadster. (but can't be certain it has the 530 BHP engine).

Only down side I see with my roadster compared to my SV is weight. It's noticeably a heavier car. But then also feels more solid and easier to drive.
I love it, 200 mph with the roof off!!!
I'm very proud of my car being just as it left the factory and original (including the lovely roadster wheels) Later cars like mine (1998 onwards) had the 18" versions, earlier ones 17".

Guess they can't be everyone's cup of tea as I'd hate it if everyone had one ;o)
I really do like the rear quarter windows that the coupes have (that is another casulty of the roof accomodation modification).

Think if I had the chance to design the roadster, I'd have opted for the rear window area to be removed as with ther murcielago as it would feel more open. But that said, I wouldn't want the soft top the murcielago has.

Has anyone yet established if any tax needs to be added to the £40k asking price?

AM-V8...

you may need to register with Lambo Power... it will be whole seconds worth of fun if you do... (can't abide the place as it goes, far too much bling, bling, bling, bling for my tastes - Lamborghinis don't need big razzle dazzle, they're an event in themselves, etc etc etc...)

If I had clue 1 about placing images on PH then I would but despite what people say sometimes, I have other stuff to do...

Reading through the thread and following links, he says it has just had a once over by Verdis...

Could be worth giving them a call for their opinion?

So I'd guess, yes - it IS in the UK!

I ma absolutely no expert but something about this makes me very uneasy...

Unless it has been CAT-D'd in the past - that will kill the resale value - despite, possibly being perfectly repaired?

Plus, of course... It's a left hooker!
