Long time lurker, first time poster. Would a Jalpa be a viable option to use as a daily driver? Im tempted by this:

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C39741?pt=pf

It would replace an aging Alfa Spider 2.0 TS, im not doing a huge amount of miles PA (about 7000)

It seems temptingly cheap and a good way to get my Miami Vice fantasies out of my head.

Whats your thoughts?

I see it's for sale at Carlo's, so the car itself should be one of the better examples on the market...
Jalpa's have been known to be mechanically quite solid, so 7000 miles per year should be feasible...
Maybe one of the members knows the car?

Don't see why not.

I don't know that particular car. But as already mentioned Jalpa's are quite solidly built, on the whole. From the lights and the colouring it is an early car, so don't expect the little access panel for the front bank of spark plugs. frown

The seller is well known on this forum, in the Lamborghini Club and to the lamborghini populous so you can be sure you're buying from a reputable dealer. Carlo's site is topgear-cars.co.uk, though I think he has taken the Jalpa off there. TBH it has been for sale for quite some time, I guess down to the colour combo.

The problems are well documented on Jalpa.ch and the owner of that site is a regular poster on Lamborghini-Talk.com so if any thing crops up it can usually be asked, ordered and sorted quite quickly.

Based on the car you're currently driving you're familiar with Italian electrics and the joys of getting your hands dirty, now and again?

I'm used to a large amount of ecentricity with my cars, TBH the spider hasnt been as bad as the 145 I had before.

What should I be looking at in terms of annual running costs and how much of a disaster budget should i set aside?

While im on the topic, does anyone know who would cover it? The classic insurance people ive spoken to arn't too keen to quote on more than 5k PA, plus ive had what can be best discribed as a 'colourful' driving record.....
