My 430's nearly 3.
1) Should I extend its warranty?
2)Who's better for its general maintenance, approved dealer or local specialist?
1) Up to you. A major mechanical failure could be a financial disaster and it is nice to have the piece of mind.1) Should I extend its warranty?
2)Who's better for its general maintenance, approved dealer or local specialist?
2) With all the 430's for sale at the moment, I would assume an approved dealer service history would make the car more attractive when you decide to sell.
My CS is out of warranty and my Spider before that was out of warranty.
I stick to main dealer for service like to keep full Ferrari history.
This year the dealer offered me extended Ferrari warranty for £2250inc. You have to have the car inspected for £250 and if it passes or you get the jobs done that they point out the £250 comes off the £2250.

So many things are not covered that are consumables
eg
Ball joints
Clutches
Brakes
Lamba probes and the likes
These are the items you are going to be replacing with age/mileage(if your car does any!
we know about you BEBS).
I expect the F1 pump would be covered but that is less than the warranty.
Have run Ferrari now for 9 years and never renewed the warranty just take my chance.

Right now, having been given the quotes (those are crazy prices!) and terms by Graypaul, I'm more inclined to take Neil's view and take my chances.
How about the other matter, though? If the local specialist is a well known and highly regarded operator does it really matter at resale if he or an official dealer have stamped the book, particularly if the car is a good few years old?

Warranty - cost is huge and from what I hear 430's are pretty reliable. Exclusion clauses are numerous and dont cover the stuff that normally goes wrong. At £2k+ I wouldnt be taking out the warranty as your going to need to take an engine or gearbox out before you get to that sort of cost and I have not heard of one going! Its really a question of how risk averse you are!
In respect of servicing it is a tough call on a car of that age.
From a resale point of view buyers, I suspect, are going to be looking for a full ferrari main dealer history. However, once the car gets to around five years old then I dont think buyers will necessarily be put off by non-dealer history.
From a quality point of view, I personally, prefer a good independant. I use an independant who I trust. I know that he takes care and time over my car. He knows that word of mouth is very important and that one bad experience can destroy HIS business. Employees of large main dealers have a lot less to loose. The main dealers also have lots of customers and so one customer is not very important to them.
I have used main ferrari dealers and have found them to wrong diagnose faults, miss things and want to change things that dont need changing!! I am sure that there are probably some bad indies too but for me it is a no brainer; indy everytime (but then I have never owned a car that new!)
I use www.Grimaldiengineering.co.uk and have nothing but praise for them.
