Hello all,

I'm a very happy owner of a Porsche Boxster and have been for nearly 6 and a half years but I can't resist the charms of a Gallardo any longer. I've been a Lambo fan ever since I saw the busty duo in Cannonball Run and the Gallardo had me at "Hello!" I've got my eye on an early Giallo Midas w/ black leather and yellow stitching. Hence this discussion. Any advice on buying, maintaining and owning a G? Any help is much appreciated but I do have a few questions:

a) Servicing; is it yearly like my Boxster and when's the major service due? What's the average costs?

b) Problems; anything I should look to avoid?

c) Insurance; I've done a bit of homework and Admiral seems quite cheap, any others?

d) Specialist; can anyone recommend an expert that I could ask to check over a potential new car?

I'm hoping that by pooling everyone's knowledge it will help me (and others) avoid any potential pitfalls! It doesn't matter how trivial or small the advice is I'm sure it will be invaluable!

Thanx in advance for any replies,

Witchbreed

P.S. I live in Shropshire in the UK so if you can keep it UK-centric it would help!

a) Every 7500 miles or 12 months. Service schedule is minor/major/minor/major etc. About £1k and £2k respectively at Lambo dealers.

b) Make sure it has the e-revision clutch.

c) Try Michael Ward.

d) Take it to Lambo.........

3 questions...

I keep my current car (Boxster) in a old WWII external garage that leaks so I use a tailored indoor cover and an outdoor cover (over the top) to keep the water and sh!te off the indoor cover (keeping up so far?)

1) Can anyone recommend a decent cover that you can use for a Gallardo? I'm looking for a tailored indoor cover but I know some manufacturers have one that is soft enough to use indoor but is ok outdoors.

2) Is there a anyone who sells cheap clear side repeaters for a G? I'm not too fond of the amber ones.

3) Oh bugger I've forgotten the third one! grrrr!

Cheers,

Colon.

Cheers A,

I would fix the garages but they are in a block and the edge of the roof is like a sieve! It would be cheaper to knock the things down and start again! As I don't own them I'm just happy that I can use it to (almost) shield my car from the elements it's just when there's a large downpour the seals on the roof give way and the front and back of the car covers are soaked (hence the outdoor cover).

Cheers,

Colon.

I've seen a G for sale at V12 Power (part of the (not Genghis) Kahn empire?)

http://WWW.V12ONLINE.COM

It states that it has a performance upgrade. "542BHP DMS performance"

I was wondering if anyone else has 'upgraded' their G and whether this affects the residuals.

Did we speak some months ago about a PX on your boxster for my 2004 G?

Anyway... As far i have read/heard. DMS is an ECU remapping company! well known for transforming diesels and turbo cars which benefit more from mapping than NA ones..

I would be a little wary of a chipped £80k car.. but your call.. certainly would be an issue if you have a warranty!

Cheers

Hey Nick,

It wasn't me that was after your car. I had a test drive in a black one but I prefer the G in Giallo Midas. None of the other colours do it for me.

The advert caught my eye so I thought I'd have a closer look. I've passed on one car before that had had modifications to engine, suspension (I think) and also an altered Sat Nav which had been taken from a Murci.

For me the Gallardo is perfect as it is and doesn't need to be tampered!

I'm hoping to secure a G by Jan/Feb time once I've got a few other things sorted.

Thanx for your reply.

I have an air chamber spare, you will have to check internal size of garage as its the big one.

I've decided to work on the garage when the Spring comes around. It's an asbestos roof so I need to be careful so it'll probably be a case of plug the holes. I've seen some previous threads/posts on strips and glue etc that can seal gaps so that's the project! The garage is quite small but the Boxster fits in fine and I've measured to insure a G will fit. I tend to park down one side so I have more room to get out!

I've seen the air chambers before but how do they work? As the garage is external and 100 yards from my house (in a block) I've always been restricted with power supply. I have some handy battery strip lights which work a treat but apart from that the garage is bare.

Anyone got the 'official' lambo cover? Is it just an indoor one?
