Fear that things are going to become increasingly tight from the news today.
Oh dear, no more fun. How much would it cost to buy the police force?

ETA to change completely:

just read the PH news item - it's just more of the same NuLabia bollzokysttywkz so-called policy, that's 'hard on crime, hard on the victims of crime' (eh?) talk we've had for years.

The car I 'travelled' in the other day went the entire length of a well-known motorway along the side of Englands' best-known National Park at approx. NSL+30%... we travelled at <30 on the roads in various towns and villages afterwards, or maybe a little over that in the 40 zones, traffic was geting thick by then...

Nobody was killed, no little bunnies exploded, no great finger came out of the sky and fired lightning at anyone - unlike the news I read about Child P being so brutalised and so let down by our great gubbermint and its incompetent staff... can't this shower of sh*t get some sense of priority to their policies?

Speed Kills - MY ARSE.

bad driving, driving without due care, reckless driving, incompetent driving, drunk driving, drugged driving and generally driving without the faintest f**king clue of how to control a car or look more than 10 feet ahead of the bonnet KILLS.

what infuriates me is that I could drive my entire life without tax, insurance, MOT, road-legal tyres or a driving licence at the NSL and am highly unlikely to ever get caught. Yet if a competent, alert driver chooses to travel at > 100mph in a car that's more than capable and suitably prepared on a clear road in appropriate conditions - he runs the risk of having his licence revoked.

the legal system in this country is a joke.

and *breathe*

Check your pay slips or your tax returns and you'll find the answer - We've already bought them! We just aren't allowed to issue their job description. Too much gain for HM Treasury in persecuting motorists and not enough in catching criminals you see!

It's worse than that - they actually BELIEVE this sh|t!

That's the worst of all scenarios as there's nothing worse (or more unstoppable) than a 'righteous' person!

Never mind that we just had the lowest accident rates ever recorded here and the lowest in Europe, including a 26% decrease in child deaths (if you don't play on my road, I won't drive on your pavement).... What we need is a crackdown on drivers! rolleyes

Speeding is simply wheeled out as 1) It's by cotton wool brigade idiots who have absolutely NO idea about driving at all and 2) It's easy to nick you for - it's quantifiable and best of all (from their point of view) Automatable. So they get to pay lots of lip service to trying to reduce accident rates.

If they had any ba||s they'd do things like banning drink driving all together and get serious patrols on the roads.

eta: Also forgot to have my usual pop at the general hippie, anti car mentality "oh wow man, heavy heavy heavy, why can't we all just live a nice pastoral existence with no machines that are always trying to cool you out..."

a again ta:

I forgot to point out that already we can get 6 points for doing over 85... What they're proposing is RAISING that to 90 but removing discretion and making it automatic - you don't get to defend yourself in court (well, to a 'rigged' Magistrate!)

As none of us exceed the speed limit, I cannot see how this will effect us.

It's not speed that kills; it's stopping sharply and unexpectedly that gets you!

(beautifully misquoted from Clarkson I think)

I know I don’t drive a supercar, at least not in the league of you guys anyway, but this topic is so relevant to me at the moment that I just had to post a comment.
The other day those very nice gentlemen at the Thames Valley Police sent me some very nice pictures of my car doing 40mph in a 30 mph and 52mph in a 30mph – though in my defence I was yards from a 60mph sign and not in a built up area. As XXVIII said, no one was hurt, no little bunnies exploded and I wouldn’t even have run over the traffic cop (had I seen him!) cos it would have damaged the car.
Unlike the policemen who killed John Charles De Menezes, I won’t be getting off scot free though luckily I won’t be getting banned either despite already having 6 points on my licence. I’ll just have to slow down a bit for a few years and pay a solicitor to speak nicely to the magistrates.
Though I’m sure if I’d been driving a Corsa, I wouldn’t even have been noticed. Not that I’m saying there was any kind of envy involved but seeing a tiny little girlie like me driving a reflex purple Topless Tuscan with Tuscan (almost) on the number plate through south Bucks on a beautiful sunny day just might have had something to do with why they took so many pictures of me and my car.......
wink

I'm sorry to hear about that. I reckon if you're within reading distance of the 60mph you ahould be able to do that speed? My excused anyway. Still reckon if we clubbed together we could buy the police force.
