355GTS v 328GTS any views?
Discussion
Hi
I sold my lovely mint 308GT4 to a guy from Japan. ( sob) At least the wee car will finally be back in a country with warm weather!!
Looking to buy either a 328 or 355 GTS. Have never driven a 355 or know much about them. I do not like cars with a firm ride and some friends have suggested they may be like that. Just hoping to canvass some views and opinions and advice. My budget is sub £40 and preferably sub £35. I know there are some mega price 328's about but was thinking more of a usuable car for near everyday use and enjoyment. Have had X1/9's for 18 years and like Targa motoring as compared to open motoring as per my Barchetta. Therefore dont want a spider. Have a countach QV so not really needing a car for speed or pose!
Any and all opinions and advice would be appreciated. Evena tip of a nice car that someone knows!

i owned both 328GTS and 355GTS for about 4 Years and now have another 328GTS. I'm not sure it's easy to compare, the 355 is a much more modern car, more roomy and overall more civilised. The ride on both is extremely good considering their type. The 355's running costs will be higher by dint of the engine out cambelt service required every 3 Years.
There are many poor 355's out there that have not been kept up to scratch wheras the 328, perhaps due to it's lower overall costs and slightly more classic status seem to have faired better, having said that in my recent search I've seen some equally poor 328's
Oddly I never really bonded with my 355 having loved my 328, but there is no doubt it is one of the best looking Ferraris ever, I've been watching the market with a view to buying one, seems now is a good time

Blimey Mark, that'll be a nice little collection!
Sorry for the O/T...
You do not need performance, as you already have that.
So may I suggest another option....
Early fibreglass 308 GTB.
imho the 308 is slightly more stylish than the 328 - the 328 is a better car, but the interior went downhill, and there were a few body tweaks that weren't good.
The fibreglass 308's are the best of the bunch, and are becoming collectible, seeing as they are rare.

Hi
I agree about the collectability of the fibreglass cars and also like the carb noise as i had on my GT4. I had thought about them but may be difficult getting a good one which has a chassis which is in good condition as they rust and are meant to be diffcicult to repair? I do prefer the looks of the 308 to the 328, the main difference is that the 328's were glavanised and rust less!
does anyone know when or of the 308's were ever galavnised?
I know the 308's were meant to be about 125kg lighter in fibreglass but is there any practical difference in feel or performance as opposed to theoretical?
I loved my wee GT4, light, handled beutifuly and went very well with a lovley engine and fluid gearchange, but to have kept it perfect would have meant a bare metal respray and didnt want to incur that cost, so elected to sell it and look for something else.
If peopel know the fibreglass cars would be interested in comment and views.
People have gone mad especially in the states for the early countach Lp400. It is the worst driving of the cars and has no real handling, but the looks are the purest and possibly most beutiful. Howevere i do prefer the QV. Is the fibrelass similair in that regard to the 328?

Sorry Paul, but you're about £34,075 short off from what you'd expect to pay..... Have you tried Minichamps or Hotwheels. They do some great models more in that price range!
