Hi
I've just bought a 360 Modena F1 which am told needs a new clutch shortly. The specialist that did the inspection when i bought it quoted me £2k + VAT...which i think is a bit of a rip considering thats a ferrari main dealer sort of price. Any other suggestions/alternatives?
Thanks

I'm not very familiar with the ferrari specialist 'circuit'... I know they're not the cheapest in the world - but they're also far from the most expensive - Verdi quote 'from' £900 as a starting price - maybe give them a call?

Bear in mind that:

360 = cheap belt sertvice, but expensive clutch change.
355 = cheap clutch change, but expensive belt service.

Horses for courses etc.

If its the same as a manual then you may find other things need updating when they get into the bell houing- ie the clutch bearing, fly ring etc (esp if its an early car)

A clutch change on a 308/328 is cheaper than on my Mondeo eek Bargain if it actually costs £395 inc VAT

I've heard that the clutches have recently been hiked up substantially by Ferrari. The 360 will be around 2k, going from what prices have gone up by.

Depends what they intend to do but £2K isn't sounding too wild - if they are just replacing the clutch the parts will be at least £1K - go onto Eurospares and check the prices but they have fluctuated a bit recently, from around £800 to £1500 and back (for full clutch kit). The price verdi have on their website has been there for years and I'd be surprised if they'd honour it, and at absolute best they'd just be replacing the friction plate - to be honest when you've gone to the trouble to get in that deep you're as well making sure everything is in order as Paracetamol says - as a minimum I'd also install the Hill Engineering thrust bearing upgrade.

Hey guys
Thanks for all the replies...seems like there are some good suggestions at more reasonable cost (sub £1k at QV and Grimaldi).
Only question i have now is that the gearbox light is popping up every now and then (for a few seconds at a time)...have read a few threads on this and most point to the F1 pump/actuator. However, i've been told (inspection) that the F1 pump was in good condition when i bought the car (About 70% life left). Would this gearbox light also come on for when the clutch needs replacing (it had 80% wear about 3 weeks ago)?
Also...if/when the clutch goes will i be able to drive it at all - to get it to the specialist?
Cheers

If you mean the little red "box with open lid" light the dash, I get that sometimes on startup - both before and after having the F1 pump replaced. I've had it looked at and the diagnostics don't show anything.

I'm not an expert but I don't think it's a good idea to drive if there's something clearly wrong with the clutch - apparently you can do a lot of damage. That said, the first indication can be slipping into neutral and I guess you'd probably be ok for some miles after that.

I'd really recommend getting AA cover or similar if you haven't already - worth it should something go wrong and you need the car towed to a garage in the middle of a night!
