Im Toying with the idea of changing the 360 spider for a Murcielago or 430 Scuderia next year. Does anyone have experience of both cars to compare. money wise, i guess they're the same but id be interested to hear views on living with either car. The car will be used daily. apaerently the Muci spider has roof issues above 110mph has there been a recall for this. is there a carbon hard top that can replace ragtop???

any info appreciated

Bob.

I personally think the murci is a better looking car and you can get a carbon roof for them.

The Above is Atal Design and it's not too pretty... http://www.italcardesign.ch/page2.html

Here's a Genaddi and it's nice http://genaddi.com/lambo/ but expensive

If its going to be used daily I suggest you read Simon Georges end of long term report on his old Murcie. Running costs were rather large to say the least.

Much as I love the Murcielago I would probably go with the Scud. Its a lot lighter and more chuckable than the Lambo which is a pretty big car for UK roads.

His bills were large because the car spent most of it's life on track and covered over 40k odd miles

I think all "supercars" are about the same to run

drive both and buy what your happy with

Your decision must bring you much pain and anguish...

Between one "Really Awesome Thing" and another, "Really Awesome Thing" biggrin

Fantastic situation to be in! biggrinbiggrin

Styling, presence, bling an *everything else* wise... It's the Murci Roadster, hands down every time!

I can't help suspecting the 430scud will be more of a hooner's car

Ok I readily admit, I have absolutely nothing to base this on! lol

eg: the Esprit is infinitely more chuckable than the Diablo - but they offer very different 'highs'

It all depends on how you like to drive and what you want out of your driving and ownership 'experience'

Either way... I somehow don't really foresee you having an unpleasant future wink

This is why I read this section of Pistonheads. My daily struggle surrounds whether or not to go for a chicken sandwich or a ham sandwich. Reading postings like this never fails to bring a smile to my face...I love it and wish I was making that kind of decision...

Anyway, I've driven neither but as a petrolhead it would have to be the Lambo...

Cheers
David

PS...I chose chicken today.

Absolutely no driving experience of either but I wold buy the scud every time. No thought required for me but then I am a total ferrari fan.

I'm sure both are great cars. The scud is going to be significantly better on a track. I am a real convertible fan so if I had this problem I would buy the scud convertible that is about to be released!!!!

  • winces*

Now THAT'S depreciation! redface

Still think it needs a red or a white interior tongue out

hehe

ETA: *compromises slightly* a White AND black interior would really work!

I like my cars like my girls - Larey, Over The Top and ever so slightly Out Of Control!

...or was that... low self esteem, low expectations and low standards?!

biglaugh

(Or anyone who has actually SEEN my cars would say... Dirty! hehehehe )

I think a better comparison is the LP640 v Scud. If it was genuinely being used everyday then I would go for the Scud as its doubtless easier to handle in heavy traffic and more practical if the 360 Strad is anything to go by. The Murcie takes so much out of you driving it every day, and with stuff like parking etc gets v tiresome. Novelty using a Murcie every day does wear off!
Having said that if it was Scud v LP640 I would go for the LP- its lighter on the steering than the Murcie, brakes are a lot better and its so much easier to live with daily. I love the Murcie when I'm in the mood as although its modern its still kind of 'old school'! The LP is a doddle to drive and gets the same attention but it takes less out of you. You never lose that feeling of being in a big heavy car in either the Murcie or LP though.

I guess ('cos I haven't driven/owned either frown ) it's whether you prefer the 'outright drivability' or the ultimate 'sense of occasion'?

To quote a fellow PHer (I'm sure he won't mind as it's in his 'blog') comparing his 360 to his Murci:

'for the 5am cross country thrash before the world wakes up, when it’s ONLY about the thrill of driving, we’d take the 360. For 95% of the above('experiences'), more outright performance, and to feel like a living god, it’s got to be the Raging Bull.'

Ive had both and I can tell you now to forget about using a roadster daily. You can buy the carbon roof but its still an impractical car in this country. If you really want a LP640 then stick with the coupe.

Both cars are fun to drive but i preferred the Scud.

Its a real toughie. do the roofs leak as well as fall off? heard a few horror stories about them. my hearts saying Raging Bull but my heads saying Dancing Donkey. lets hope my lottery ticket says SL black.

You may as well throw the fabric roof in the bin. I put it on once and it took over an hour and even then it didnt go on properly. The roadster is car to be used without the roof. Think of the roof as an emergency provision. Just dont get caught in the rain.

I haven't driven either but if it were my money I wouldn't hesitate to get the LP640. Neither car is exactly ideal for everyday use but I suppose the Scud would have the edge for that. Personally I'd get something cheaper that wouldn't make you cry if you scratched it.

Otherwise, if you remotely like engines as opposed to just driving fast, the Lambo V12 delivers sounds and pleasures way beyond any V8. The LP640 is simply the best sounding road car out there. Spine tingling doesn't really do it justice. And that's with the standard exhaust.

As for looks the Scud isn't fit to park anywhere near a Murcielago. Ferrari for some bizarre reason haven't made a beautiful car since the 355. The Murci is as flash as you can get but being a Lambo will make people smile unlike the oh so serious Ferrari which is I suppose cool looking but no-one could honestly call it beautiful. The murcielago is a work of art that you can get in an rip up to 200mph in.

I owned a ferrari once (big mistake) but I hope to be a Lambo man before too long. Who wouldn't want to be a Lambo man? Who wouldn't want to be able to say 'Let's take the Lamborghini?'. As a brand it's so much more fun and about having fun, which surely is the whole point of the rather ridiculous exercise of buying a supercar? Just look at the doors on the murci, ridiculous, great fun, uber cool and something ferrari would never do, even though they do have some practical advantages for a wide car. They just take themselves way too seriously. For me a supercar is about having fun and no-one has as much fun as a Lambo owner.

Now there speaks a man who understands what the supercar ethos is all about. No they're not practical, economical, cheap, planet-saving or any of that other bo11ox. But they are fun.

Sir, you deserve a Lambo for that piece of prose alone.
