Its time to start thinking about a week end fun car again. Budget circa £75k will probley be doing around 25k miles over three years. Needs to be easy to drive as I lend my cars out quite a lot but most important is the value after 3 years as I dont want to spend £75k for it to be worth £20k at the end.
My daily drive is shared between a mercedes E55 AMG supercharged estate and a mercedes ML 270 cdi and I want my play car to be faster than the AMG and driving it needs to feel special.I also have the old ferrari 308 gtb for thrashing around in and im going to be keeping it. It needs to feel more special than the 308.
Do I go for a cheap 360 F1 fixed head or spider ?
Do I go for a low milage gallardo ? , Lamborghini Wycombe have low milage car for £60k
Do I go for a Lamborghini Murcielago ?, seen a VT Coupe with 23k miles for £70k

What do you guys think would be the best option ? I feel the 360 and the Gallardo may lack power compaired to the AMG ? Has any body got any other suggestions ?

I think I want some thing a bit more `raw` , but the sl is a great car. I think it needs to a differnt make than my daily drivers.

I just tend to share my toys with my mates. I did once lend my maserati merak to a complete stranger to take his wife to a Hotel for there aniversery, lent the Amg to a couple of mates to take to Le mans last year, The 308 is driven by family when they stay with us for holidays and quite a few other mates borrow it as well. Its some thing that I`ve always done.

Ford GT is an inspired suggestion imo...

I knwo this is going to upset some and it's not meant personally but bluntly... imo, There's nothing 'special' about any merc in the 'supercar' sense. I'm not having a pop at the build/performance/german factors etc but in terms of that real 'wow' factor they aren't it. The real "wow" factor can only be measured by the amount of times your car gets photographed while you're minding your own business in it. For that you need great cache and great rarity - Lambo would come first and then a Ferrari (obv. not including the mega bucks hyper-halo-cars)

As for how much money you'll lose - that's a hard one - anything 'newish' and it seems all bets are off atm - Though I have recently been wondering if they're simply doing all the same depreciation they were going to do anyway but sadly in an incredibly compressed / accelerated period of time? So maybe one can get a 'fully depreciated car' in (say) 5 years instead of 10?

If you don't want to lose on depreciation then imho you need to look at ultra rare cars or ones which have already done their depreciating (eg older cars - Diablos, Countachs, Testarossas etc etc) but they won't tick the 'easy' box!

A Murci would be easy to drive and *way* more special than anything else mentioned too! I'm just not sure that it will then satisfy your 'no crippling depreciation' requirement? Again, imho, I would be *extremely* cautious about Murci's at the bottom of the market value right now - the 70k ones etc... That's not to say they ARE all bad - just proceed with great caution and get it checked over with a fine toothed comb...

Keep us posted biggrin

A secondhand DB9 is a great buy these days. The design is timeless, the 6 litre engine is very powerfull and is not working hard, the touchtronic gearbox is superb, it is the best grand tourer around and it still attracts a lot of attention. 55k-65k buys you a great example these days and I would not shy away at relative high mileage cars as these cars get better with use.

I travel the motorway a lot, in order of being most commonly seen: sonar

Porsche - it's just an everday car, boxter to GTx's they all look the same and don't stand out.
Aston's - so many around, nothing special any more, far more DB9's than Vantages
Bentley's - Mainly GT's and driven by the wife, or men of a certain age (see male menoporsche top of list)
Ferrari's - i see at least two a day
Maserati's - more 32/4200, less Quattroporte's, few Grandsports
Lamborghini's - Gallardo see one a week, Murci one a month, older Diablo/Countach's rarely bow
New Nissan GTR - seen two (one was the press car)
Ford GT - Never seen one (probably all at Ford's for repair) tumbleweed

I went for a Gallardo cloud9 (apart from being a Lamborghini fan) can't match a Countach for shear visual excitment but it's a great car.
Looked at Aston V8 Vantage, couldn't afford a 430 at the time, Grandsport and GTR weren't around but would have been high on the list.

No, they're just that rare. P1 said the Ford GT needed the least work to keep it going. The Italian machinery was off the road more than twice as much for the same mileage.

But £75k for a Ford GT? No chance unless it's been very very bent in the past.

Yup, I'd go with that. Diablo would be my vote.

Ford GTs couldn't be found for the money you want to spend, and at 7ft wide and LHD, I seriously doubt they are easy to drive tongue out Same goes for the murci aswell as it's also quite wide, if it was my money, it would be an a gallardo and I'd just take the hit on the depreciation frown

That'd get my vote too. F1, FHP, job done.

Or could a 612 be bought for £75k yet?

ummm 575 would be a good value retention car.
Gallardo would feel special as would any lambo tbh.

Ferrari I wouldnt bother common as muck.
Ford GT not on your budget.
Almost any german is NOT special they are merely things.

The only one off the top of my head that would be an option and a non money loser would be the BMW Z8

Other than that I would go with a Morgan Aero 8 or Gransport/Gransport spider which is rarer.

If cost of maintenance is an issue at all then maybe an Audi R8. However it will lose a fair whack of money.

There fixed. My spelling has gone to h3ll of late.
