Morning All,

With limited knowledge (Porsche owner) on the Ferrari models I have an open question. With a budget of upto £30k what in the current climate would be the model of choice for a weekend toy. Soft top is a consideration.

Cheers,

This would be my suggestion. 1989 328GTS in Rosso red with crema interior.

Speak to Nick Cartwright of Tansley - he advertises in Classifieds.

Should get a solid very good condition 348. You might scrape a 355, which if you can find one in the right condition and at the right price would be my choice.

If a 328 is of interest, then how about a fibreglass 308 ? By far the most stylish and collectible of the lot.......

You're also in 456 territory - not to be dismissed out of hand, you're getting a LOT of car for your money....

How fast do you seriously want to go? Or what Porsche are you moving from?

If you want 3.2 onwards 911 speed then forget the 328/308s. I was considering these for the pure lines, but in the end went for my second 348 as I knew the older models would be too slow.

You will get a good 348 Spider easily within your £30k budget and a good one to start with should not cost a fortune to run.

You can get 550s for £30k at auction, but through normal "safe" channels they are nearer £40k. You may also get a decent 456 for £30k if a true 2+2 is tempting. Great V12s but potentially quite expensive to run.

As has been said, for your budget, a superb 348 or a bottom of the market 355 in my opinion smile

Peppy 3 litre on carbs packed in a Gandini / Bertone design: you can't beat this. And a 2+2 too.

More here.

The forgotten Ferrari indeed.

Look here. what silly money they ask . . .

I can remember not very long ago when both the 400 and gt4 were £5-10k, and for 10k you got the best.

Thirty thousand pounds gets you a 355 now doesn't it? Not my favourite, a bit saggy but popular. Or maybe a Testarossa for extra visual impact.

I was also a Porsche owner for many years (last one was a 993 Carrera 2) and wanted a Ferrari. Spent about a year looking at 328's/348's (there are some dodgy ones) and eventually found a 93k 348 TS in Giallo Fly with 29000 miles for £22k a year ago(had full main dealer history). Have never looked back and have owned it for a year with no expense. I did find the 328 a little slow.

Don't get me wrong the Porsche was a fantastic car but Ferrari has something special...

PS My electric windows seem to be getting very slow, any helpful advice as people tell me this is common.

Most likely the contacts in the door wiring connectors are dirty or corroded. Open the doors as far as they will go, the connectors are black (about 40mm diameter). They un-twist like a bayonet cap light bulb. Spray a bit of contact cleaner or WD40 in there which might help if the damage is not too bad. I hard-wired the connectors in my car to solve it once and for all.

My £30k (if I could work out where it's hiding) would definitely go on a Ferrari 328. It benefits from all of the improvements made during the 308's development cycle and has further improvements that were too radical to incorporate into the 308. It's also simpler and cheaper to maintain than a 348. With a 328 you're getting the optimum blend of reliability, maintainability, looks and performance - not quite as pure as a 308, not quite as fast as a 348, but a very desirable compromise between the two.
