I was speaking to a friend about the 355 ( I've wanted one for years) and he was telling me that he thought that a replacement gearbox was about 20k for one. Does anyone know if that's true? If it isn't which i hope it's not, how much is a replacement?

Thanks

If you bought the box from ferrari it probably is £20k. However you would be nuts to do that; either have it rebuilt (try Grimaldi) or go to a specialist breaker like Eurospares, both would be considerably cheaper.

Don't know about the gearbox, but I believe that the cost of the 'F1 Pump' for the flappy-paddle gearbox on the 355 costs £9,995 from a main dealer... just for the part! Fitting is extra!!

The windscreens cost 10,000 too. And the roof is a whopping 145,752GBP. You don't even want to know how much the electric window switches cost!

If you want one, go and look at some and talk to people with actual ownership experience. They do not cost that much to run when you consider what you're getting, and are one of the best sports cars ever made full stop.

The other point is that when a F1 pump goes it can be repaired. Early failures in Masers/Ferrari were due to a fault with a relay that then caused the motor to burn out in the pump. Some owners have taken the pump apart and gone to an electic motor engineer type workshop and got the motor rewound and it all works again.
