Photography offer
Discussion
Hi all, some time ago (circa ~12months) I typed up a thread in this section offering a free photoshoot. At the time, it received some unfavourable responses from certain people and, spinelessly I took them to heart. Since then, I've carried on with trackday photography, and for a period of 6 months (before a redundancy bailout to save the company), I worked as a professional photographer and designer for an international company. Now I'm on the road to begin a career with the RAF as a photographer too, but I'm eager to expand my portfolio before I go in, and also hoping to re-launch my private business venture, which is where you guys come in.
I'm looking for some interesting cars to photograph, and I'll be extending the offer to various car marques too, as well as being copy/pasted on a couple of sections of this site. I'll try to break down some of the info:
The cars
Essentially, it has to be somewhat interesting. That doesn't necessarily mean expensive, so just shout up with what you've got and it'll be considered. I'd be just as eager to shoot a 70's Alfa 1600 as I would a Zonda, so don't be shy.
What I get out of it
I'll get full rights to the image, meaning I can use it for any need I see fit. This could mean the image is used for advertising on the internet, or even for a T-shirt design. Most likely, it'll simply be printed and glued into my portfolio.
What you get out of it
You'll get a CD with all original images in full resolution (3264x2448 RAW format), plus any edits I make (usually 500x350 in high quality JPEG), at least one desktop wallpaper made from the image of your choice (again, high quality JPEG, size depending on your needs). If I do make a T-shirt design from the image, I may even give you the design free of charge (though this will be discretionary). Mostly though, you'll hopefully just have a bit of a laugh and talk to someone with a passion for cars and photography.
Agenda
There's nothing too strict here. I'd be looking to meet up preferably one on one, though if people would prefer to do it as a group that's not a problem. The location would really be down to the owners location, though the closer the better, I would be willing to travel. I'd be looking to use natural lighting, and natural backgrounds. As unprofessional as that may seem, I'll essentially be turning up with my car, camera and laptop so you'll get a brief idea of how the shots will turn out. I'll be taking a fair few stationary shots, some macro shots and where possible some motion/action shots.
That's pretty much it. If you're interested, post it in here or email me (Boost_Addict@hotmail.com). I can appreciate that people will want to see previous work before committing which is fair enough. Here's a few quick ones. They're not particularly chosen down to their range of skills, nor because they're any good. They're just some recent edits I happen to have on my girlfriends new laptop. They simply represent the kind of clarity the camera will produce. Before I put them up, I'm also fully aware that I'm not the greatest photographer in the world, and that my work is subjective and not everybody will like it. However, if the last offer taught me one thing it was to stick to my guns. If you don't like it, fair enough. But seriously, if you're going to post things like ''it's not worth my time'', then don't bother. I'm not interested in meeting up with 'holier than thou' snobs anyway, regardless of the car you drive. Just take this at its face value - an opportunity to chat cars, photography...anything with somebody like-minded, and a chance to get some free shots of your car. Anyway...

If anyone wants to see more, let me know and I can edit some others I have on this computer (700+ Nurburgring photos, 200+ Croft photos).
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Also, for those who expressed interest last time, I'd like to apologise for not getting back to them. The criticism made me take a serious look at the work I was producing, and I decided to abandon the project. In retrospect, this was pretty pathetic and immature, and I can't believe I did it over the sake of a few words from people I don't know. But, you live and learn.

Why have you blown the highlights? You'd get crucified for doing that on a photography forum.
I'm assuming you're talking about the first shot? It looks over-exposed because the paint is fluorescent yellow, and the shot was taken in direct sunlight at Elvington raceway. Though the pic is semi-HDR, I left the highlights over-exposed as it helped to better identify the shadows.I'm afraid I wouldn't get crucified, as photography, like art, is subjective. Anyone who tries to define what is good or not, arguing technical merits or otherwise, has missed the point. I appreciate your concern, but I'm not looking for criticism or approval on these shots, so unless you're interested in the shoot, try to refrain from posting. If you think you can do better, feel free to post up another thread offering free photoshoots.
Thanks.

I wasn't being critical of your photography by the way, rather of photographic forums. Go to a place like DPreview and see what happens. Within minutes you'll get a reply from a guy saying he's loaded up your pictures into photoshop and checked the histogram. He will then inform you that you have blown the highlights in the red channel (or some other cr@p) then tell you that your photo would have been better if you had moved a little to the left and stepped back about two feet. (always seems to be Americans who do this).
Keep up the good work.
I dare say that, stereotypically, that's why the world hates the US. Too much time on their hands, and always eager to slate someone else in an attempt to make themselves feel better. Worryingly, UK forums have become the same. As for the shot itself, it was taken at a public event, so the shot was limited in terms of lighting, angle etc. Keep up the good work.

Probably a silly question, but what's that orange thing sticking out the bonnet of the car in the first photo? Surely he's not allowed to race with that thing sticking out like that?
Is that tongue in cheek Del? You don't seriously think those traffic cones would stay on the bonnet at that speed do you
For what it's worth. I can see where the guy's coming from. He said from the outset that he is not one of the best photographers out there. He is doing it purely for pleasure and to build up a portfolio of images that maybe he can work on/learn from. I am more than happy to get some nice shots of my car if someone is offering as, although I am capable of taking arty stuff, getting around to doing it is another matter entirely.
