is the 360 the black sheep ? or is it really better to drive than the 355 whilst not losing out on any of the old school feel & feedback ?

and how much better is the 430 over the 360 ? If you were planning to "do" modern-ish Ferraris, would you try the 355, skip the 360 then go straight to the 430 ?

interesting

so maybe the middle stage was more transitional 'work in progress', moving into the modern era ..... with the 355 being very much an old school manual 90's car and the 430 the properly honed and finalised modern product ?

not driven a 430 myself but having driven the 355 and a couple of 360's that's kinda my take on it yes.

...and your 360 Stradale is like your Mk1 GT3 I reckon.

As I said before, 360 is better car, 355 is better Ferrari.

In my biased opion.

I have owned a 348,355,360 & currently have a Challenge Stradale.
The CS I chose over a 430 as have a few people on this site & Club Scud, some had bought 430's and changed to a Strad.biggrin

yet according to Ferrari is the 430 not quicker than a 360 CS around Fiorano?

I've driven the 360, own a 430, and the whole game seems to have moved a long a good bit. I use the 430 as my daily runner, and its awesome. The f1 system improved a good bit between models i believe also?

Compared to the 360, the 430 is far quicker, seems to handle better, on race mode the f1 shift is awesome. The 430 build seems way better also.

personally I LOVE the 355, and think it is a way better looking car, but only from the outside. Not nearly as nice a place to be as the other 2 when you are actually driving it.

Looking forward to getting the 430 on track, as it is significantly rapid on the road, and you simply cant really kick lose responsibly, such is the pace with which it gathers pace, relentlessly.

Gordon not sure if 430 is faster round Fiorano than CS and don't really care, outright pace is not the full picture the CS is a raw experience car and not a car to use as every day transport. The F1 system on the CS is equal to the 430 the earlier 360's 355's have poorer F1 systems.
The CS when you get in the carbon seat full harness on tight you feel part of the car in race mode the car makes the BEST sound ever and once you get some heat in the Corsa tyres the whole experience takes on a different role to a standard 360 or 430.biggrin
I hope to keep mine foreverbiggrin

Do you have carbon brakes on your 430? They are fantastic.

couldn't disagree more.

993 was a quality build, 996 not so much and known for mechanical issues.

360 is the quality build, 355 known for mechanical issues and fragility. The drive of the 360 is far superior also. The only thing the 355 has going for it would be some people prefer the looks. In every other way (and IMO looks also) the 360 is a better car. 430 is a more refined and polished 360, but not worth the differential for 99% of drivers.

360 was a quantum leap over the 355 in terms of build - you wouldn't say that about 996 over 993.

Fair comments and quite right to pick up on it.

I think I meant "character" and looks rather than build quality. I prefer the classic feel and noise of F355, but can easily see why people prefer the 360 (also glass engine lid is cool).

I would counter that the F430 over F360 is more of an advancement mechanically rather than F360 over F355 however (albeit not visually).

I picked the F430 over the CS for precisely the same reasons that are mentioned above. Only, for me all those reasons are -ve points. I'm a bit wet behind the ears you see.

Stiffer suspension would hurt my back,
Race harnesses would crumple my suit,
The louder exhaust would make it difficult to hear my Kenny G cd,

360CS vs 430 is a lifestyle choice really, as opposed to which one if "better".

Oh, and are you sure the gearbox on CS is equal? F430 has an all new one, which would suggest some improvement. Not driven the noisey bumpy CS though.

in what ways do you think the drive is superior on the 360 over the 355 ?

imho the 360 is the better car, CS even better than 430. there is no way that a 355 is better than a 360, no way !

responsiveness, poise, balance - 355 is twitchy in comparison and feels less nimble epecially at the edge on very high speed bends - the 360 is an all-over more competent package and the engine is much improved all throughout the rev range. The active damping on the 360 is also superb at keeping it constantly flat, particularly in sport mode. Don't get me wrong - the 355 is a fantastic fun, excellent drive - just that the 360 is (quite rightly) a progression, as is the 430 to the 360 - but IMO there was a bigger jump from 355 to 360 - however I've only ever driven a 430 a few times, and never on track so I'm open to the suggestion there is much more improvement - only I couldn't find it in the limited environment of the public roads....

OK, how about this...

With respect to the chassis, the difference between a F360 and F355 is bigger than the F360 to F430.

However, with respect to the engine and electronic systems the difference between the F430 and the F360 is much, much bigger than the F355.

I am not sure on the differences between the active suspension system/sports mode in the F355 and F360 (can someone comment?), but I would wager that the F360 is an update whilst the F430 is a completely different system.

With regards to your comments on handling, I don't feel I am a skillful/sensitive enough driver to give any meaningful comments.

However, it is interesting that conflicting views which came out with the 360 - some highlighting skittish at limit and oversensitive traction control whilst some people absolutely loving it.

I am in no way suggesting an F355 is a better car. I will argue that it has more "character" however. I also personally believe that the difference between F430 to F360 is greater (from a technical viewpoint).

Hi Ewan
My CS does not feel much different in ride quallity if not in RACE mode to the 360 spider before it the carbon seats are more comfortable (for me) than the daytona seats I had in the spider.
Don't drive my CS in a suit as I own it for fun.biggrin (race harness was an option)
Don't listen to the stereo I like the engine/exhaust noise.
Agree with you it is a lifestyle thing and for me the CS ticks all the boxes and clearly the standard car ticks yours (never said one was better than the other).
Yes the CS is noisey but it is THE BEST noisebiggrin you get out of a standard road going F car it is certainly not bumpy.

Not all new things are improvements.

Have you got your car all fixed now?

Cheers
Neil
