Hi there,

Thanks to a reply from 'Wazza' in the spotted thread over on the Yorkshire section I could do with a bit of help from any Diablo experts out there (cue you David).

I have seen loads of Diablos in my time and can usually identify one from another however this one has me foxed.

I met up with the owner of the Dark Blue car in the photo below last year. I took loads of pics of it and posted them on here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

In the original thread there was a mention of the car above actually being this car: -

Does anyone have info on either of these cars ? If the two cars are indeed the same, then why the colour change ? as personally I really like the original colour and also why the change in bodywork (different bumpers and no side vents).

Curiosity is getting the better of me, if the two cars are not the same, then where abouts is the Ice Blue car as its stunning ?

Regards

Tim

Hi there,

No Jota spec is different to the Light Blue car: -

Front bumper different, small window within side window etc

Light Blue car is more like this one which I believe is also an SV

Not the same car and I dont think the light blue car is a Jota either, most likely an SV with SE30 sideskirts.

Sorry, I wasn't looking close enough. I don't think it's the same car though.

The light blue car can be seen round here (Henley) on sunny days. Seen it a few times, also managed to snap the following image;

The light blue car is most probably a 1999 SV judging from the lights (the SE skirts and slightly higher SE30 rear wing and deep back bumper were a factory option much like my old blue SV had). It is possible that it's a different model car with all the bits, but unlikely.

The dark blue car is almost certainly a standard 2WD car with an SV engine cover and wheels and SE rear spoiler. It could also be a 1996-1998 SV with a 2WD front spoiler and open head conversion but unlikely that someone would put an earlier front nose on.

It could also be a 1999 car with a changed front spoiler for some reason.

The two interiors do look similar so it's possible that it's the same car with skirts changed and front spoiler changed. If so, I assume the light blue is the later pic.

Hi there,

OK, think we might be getting some where.

If the light blue car was snapped by 'cronk-flakes' recently in Henley and the first pic that was posted of it was taken at Gaydon back in 2006, and bearing in mind that I shot the dark blue car back in July last year in Rotherham and it has been seen again recently by a regular P/Her in Sheffield then the two cars cannot possibly be the same.

The dark blue car was registered in 1999 and is listed as a Diablo SV so I don't think its a 2WD with a conversion. I reckon its a genuine SV that may have had a new front bumper as some point in its life.

It looks like both cars are non standard (ie. a few mods from factory spec) and just happen to have similar interiors.

Tim

afaik...

that candy apple red 'W' plate SV is now with an owner in Scotland and is one of the last of the rhd SV's, perhaps the very last...

the light blue car looks a similar spec, as least externally although a curiously 'weak' colour by comparison to other chiaro blue Diablos...

>>>>>edited out a load of b()ll()x having read some posts below!!!<<<<<

the candy apple red SV is just ruddy gorgeous though ain't it, eh?

I think there where two rhd 99SV's in that colour which I guess is Scurro. I saw a pic a while hack of a Scurro 99SV that had had an altercation with some railing panels, somewhere in the centre of London. My heart was in my mouth until I noted slight differences on the interior trim thankfully.

They are two different cars.
The dark blue (scuro blue) car is a 1999 Diablo SV, registered in May 1999, making it one of the last UK cars.
The light blue car, is a 1999 model, but registered in late November 1998. Incidently, the DVLA records list it as silver. Either it has had a colour change from silver to blue, or DVLA class light metallic blue as silver.
Personally, I love the scuro blue car.cool

The dark blue car is an SV. I owned it for three years and it was a great car. It's a 1999 one, standard spec from the factory.

Hi there,

Been having a dig around in my photo archive and came up with this pic of the Ice Blue car at Gaydon for 'Supercar Sunday' back in 2005.
This was a great year for the show with no less than 3 Bugatti EB110's on display (inc the bare carbon fibre car), along with an Enzo, XJ220 and a Diablo 6.0 VT in the same Ice blue colour as the SV below.

Excuse the poor quality I was still shooting film back in 2005 so have scanned this one in.

I thought the Diablo 6.0 looked a lot lighter than the SV, but that may just have been the indoor lighting affecting the colour. Both cars looked stunning though.

Hi there,

I think they are the same colour, heres a pic of the VT outside. Remember that the lighting inside Gaydon is pants and makes everything a nightmare to photo.

Hi

I've seen that photo you've posted of the 6.0 outside and it does look quite different. Yes, the lighting inside the museum is awful for taking photos! Still a nice colour!

Difficult to tell from a photo, but the light blue looks similar to Alfas "Nuvola Blue" - first appeared on the Nuvola concept, then on the 156, gradually became available on the 147 & 166 range. No reason a Lambo couldn't be painted it, I guess! If its the same, it's a light blue base, with a gold pearlescent in the finishing coat, & when clean, sparkles light blue, & like it's covered in gold dust. But, it does confuse people, our Alfa's been described variously as blue, silver, green & gold, depending on the climatic conditions on the day. HTH

How cool is that?! Fantastic! I think the earlier front bumper really compliments the open lamps. It seems to make it look a whole lot low-down meaner, particular in the Scurro colour.
