...and if the dealer kept the plate too, that has to be worth some more cash....

sure, he sold it to the trader who has presumably slapped at least £3k and probably more like £3500 on the price and may even have put the 'plate on retention....

I don't understand the point of the post.

You seem genuinely excited that you have managed to work out a dealers margin.

People have to earn money.

Just performing a useful service to whoever might want to buy that car - they'll now know the margin and thus the starting point for their negotation over price. Simple as that really.... smile

The dealer has added value "We will supply this car newly serviced with x2 new rear tyres and warranty and RAC option"

Plus comeback rather than with a private seller.

Whats the price of that!?

And it's still half the price of a new Mondeo, I know which one I'd rather take!

Depends on the warranty and service. If the former is a Maserati one and the latter performed by a main dealer, thousands of pounds.

If the former is one of those "X & Y Extended Warranties" of the ilk I have sued over before, and if the latter is a wipe over with an oily rag by Bernie and Leepu under the arches in Bethnal Green, then to coin a phrase from the hursuite magician Paul Daniels - "not a lot".

Add to that he took it off the seller's hands in an open market. If anyone wanted it at the lower price they could have bought it.

Dealer's margin isn't really much considering he has to take into account the cost of capital tied up whilst trying to sell it.

Where did I moan about, or who said I begrudged the dealer any profit made on the car? I simply passed comment, that's all. I don't know what made you think I wished to buy the car either confused

eta Steven F, have I met you before? Do you/did you own a 512 TR by any chance? If so, then you are the same guy....
